I'm thinking of going into the National Guard and joining a Light Infantry outfit.

I recently re-joined the reserves after a long absence (at age 41). It's been a great experience for me -- there are wonderful opportunities to pick opportunities that you really want, and the GWOT makes my service feel more "purposeful" than when I was in the first time. (Also, with prior service you can probably do the "choose one" option and just sign up for a year, plus 2 years int he IRR.)

If you're thinking about joining up again, I congratulate you! Send me some freepmail if I can help with any questions.

06/19/1968-02/04/70 Vietnam, Hq.Co, 2nd Squadron, 11 acr, Bridge section.
The Johnson and Nixon administration, while not really competent to conduct the war in Vietnam, are miles above the current administration in competency.

12 years Navy here (medically discharged in 2003). My father is a 22 year Army vet. The eldest sibling, the only sister, served in the Army. The oldest brother was Airborne Rangers, until nearly losing an arm during the Gulf War. My younger brother was Navy and NG. The youngest of the clan is currently in the Air Force.

To all my fellow comrades in arms, I will toast you all on Memorial Day with my usual Vodka Martini.

United States Army
SP4 Radio Relay Carrier Attendant
32ND Army Air Defense Command
11th Signal Battalion, Company C
GERMANY 1968 - 1969

The THREE over TWO missle patch became famous later on because of the Patriot Missle Batteries in the first gulf war. In my time we handled communication and telemetry to Pershing and Nike missles, very good duty for this time period. Half of my class went to NAM, the rest to GERMANY.
