Shock Mom and Dad: Become a Neo-Nazi (Right Wing Extremism in Germany)
Der Spiegel ^ | May 23, 2005 | Dominik Cziesche and 5 Co-Authors

Posted on 05/26/2005 12:16:26 PM PDT by quidnunc

German young people, faced with liberal parents who are tolerant about sex, drugs and rock and roll, are increasingly rebelling by turning to right-wing extremism. Neo-nazi fashion, music and ideology have become an ever important part of German youth culture.

Where did this "German" image come from? It's hard to say who the first person was to show up to a party in a Lonsdale shirt, curse "the Russians" or download the latest CDs by Bremen's Germanic renegade heavy metal band Kategorie C.

But Christian, Stefan and Andy don't really care how it all started. They see just themselves as good kids, living in decent families in a small city west of Munich. They're in their late teens, about to graduate from high school. And they say that there are too many foreigners "in our country." They say that "they" should leave, and that then things would be sure to get better.

They believe that if foreigners left there would be more jobs and fewer unemployed Turks getting money from the government. There would be no Albanian drug dealers on the streets and no macho Islamic guys hitting on their girlfriends. They would also no longer run the risk of being beaten up by large groups of "Russians" on a Friday night in front of their favorite bar. They say it is always "the Russians" who attack first.

Christian, Stefan and Andy aren't the fighting types. They repeat stupid xenophobic language, but aren't just dim-witted thugs. They say that they would never vote for the NPD — or not yet at any rate. They say they're afraid. Afraid of violent foreigners in their own home town. So afraid, in fact, that they wouldn't even give us their real first names.

To avoid getting bloody noses, they've discovered a detour through back yards when they go out on a Friday night. Ever since the neighborhood near the train station became a ghetto for immigrants, drunk young Russian-born Germans (the descendants of Germans who were deported to the Soviet Union after World War II) have been cruising the city's downtown streets and alleys, looking for a fight. First, says Andy, they surround their victim, then start pushing him around, and finally descend on him with their fists. Since then the three teenagers, all tall and athletic, have been avoiding the gas station and the athletic club's parking lot, places where the Russians hang out.

Truly a Post-Christian society. These people have no decent alternative to choose from.

Bingo... Hitler favored vast social reform and tight control over the market. Fascism/Nazism's only difference from Communism is that it sells itself on national pride rather than class struggle.

...rebelling by turning to right-wing extremism.

This is astounding. They are demanding lower taxes, smaller government, property rights. Next thing these kids will be demanding is withdrawing from the UN.

It iritates me as bad as poison ivy, when anyone calls neo-nazis "right wing".

Wasn't the Nazi party socialists?

The socialist/communist agenda, make right into wrong, and generally confuse the sense out of people. Tangent: Doesn't the Bible call Satan the author of confusion?

Which is why I am rather amused at all the clueless little marx-head college students, protesting globalization. I suppose their opposition to globalization makes them sort of nationalist-socialists, huh? Why does that have such a familiar ring, LOL.

That's what I felt...

I'm sure some of the parenting royally sucks, just like some of it dies in the US. However, I think the suppression of patriotism, combined with the institutional demand that every German apologize for being German has made these kids want to tell the authorities to go eat one.

...Actually most of what these kids are supposedly saying is true...

That's probably why they're being libeled as Nazis.
Can't have the Euros wake up in time and save themselves from slaughter at the hands of the Mooselimbs, now, can we?

If I lived in Deustchland, I would likely be a member of the Free Democrats, strategically voting CDU when necessary.

My son was complaining about the weirdo group outside of Wiesbaden wanting to lock all Turks up in camps or ship them out. He said it's kind of scarey to watch history repeat itself.

Why can't they rebel by reembracing Christianity?

Yeah, it's very easy to smear someone as a Nazi because they have the cajones to confront the liberal agenda. Of course, some people ARE Nazis, but what the author attributes to these kids as saying does not sound like Nazism to me. It sounds like kids who are concerned about losing their country and who see the real implications of that every day. We should be so concerned in THIS country. At least we don't have millions of muslims pouring in here. At least...I don't think we do.

How many Turks are supposed to be allowed in Germany and how long can they stay there until Germany ceases to be Germany and becomes another province of Turkey? This is a legitimate concern and one that MUST be addressed. Obviously I don't recommend killing these people but they should be deported - that is the answer (that is if the Germans are willing to do without the cheap labor - nothing comes without a price.)

Preservation of national sovereignty should be promoted.

When there is a hot discussion of a controversial subject, the real Nazis are the ones doing the shouting down and intimidating.

"Insults and accusations from the left are mere confessions."

My original tagline. Heard Rush say it a while back.

When you hear them accuse somebody of something, you know that's what they are planning to do.

Take the cry, "Bush is Hitler."

Bush is just Von Hindenburg, they plan to be Hitler.

I always thought it was a misfortune that Hitler liked Wagner. Wagner wrote excellent music. It's pretty lame to blame him somehow for Hitler behaving the way he did. Some people are fetishistic like that. Hitler liked Wagner, redruM likes Wagner, there must be a correlation....

YOU NAZI!!!!!
I don't blame Wagner for Hitler but I guess Hitler liked his music. I guess its unfair to associate the two though, Wagner really did have some great music.

I assume by neo-nazi music they mean Oy Music (Oi music??) which is like Punk Rock but some how even more annoying.

That's what a couple of generations of liberalism will do to you. But as someone with some Germanic ancestry myself...I bet they're not going to be running too much longer.
