"Don't drink and drive"
If the principal finds that disruptive he's the one who needs to leave permanently.

Perhaps the slogans reminded Mr. Duck of just how irresponsible he was for getting behind the wheel while soused.

Boy howdy, I'd expel the little twit if she wore a tee-shirt proclaiming, "don't do drugs" or "study hard". Who does she think she is?? Must be one of those religious nutcases.///s

Gee, school is getting tough. I remember getting sent home for my two shirts. But, they were over the top compared to this. My shirts said "Eat Sh*t and Die Motherfu**er" and "Simon Says Go Fu*k Yourself". (Note, the shirts had it all spelled out, I added the ** in hopes of not angering the mods.)

"The courts give me the authority and the right to make those decisions and as long as I'm sitting in this chair that's what I'm going to do." The courts don't have the authority to give the principal of a public school authority to commit egregious violations of the 1st Amendment. "Disruptive" can only be legally defined in a neutral way. The only thing "disruptive" about the shirt is that it reminds the principal and the other students about a past misdeed committed by the principal. There is certainly nothing inherently disruptive about a T-shirt bearing a "don't drink and drive" message being worn at a high school.

Considering that her t-shirt is actually challenging the authority of the principal and is directly targeted at his DUI, I'd say that the t-shirts are more than just individual expression of the girl's philosophy.
If she wore a t-shirt that said, "Our principal in a convicted drunk driver" there would actually be no difference.
Now....the issue isn't whether the message is true. The issue is that the courts HAVE upheld a school's right to prevent disruption.
Does that message, and that type of attack on the administration of the school, constitute a disruption.
I would say that it does.
The girl should lose this suit. The school should win.

A teenager was back in class Friday after receiving a one-day suspension for wearing a T-shirt with slogans including "freedom of expression" and "don't drink and drive" that school administrators considered disruptive. Well, what else did it say?

I'd bet there would not be a whimper of protest if she wore a t-shrit that stated:
Gay Pride
or something about
Straight Gay and Lesbian Alliance. (SGLA)
Many schools have a "day of silence" for this crap.
Don't you just love the hypocrisy!

Well, that's a telling statement. Seems that Herr Hypocrite Principal von Duck forgets that his particular chain of command ends with voters and the state legislature rather than the courts. Typical do-as-I say-and-not-as-I-do liberal attitude...
To: freepatriot32
I wonder. . .what is the school's policy on other types of tee shirts with slogans on them? If all are banned, then I don't have a problem with this. If the principal is singling out this message, then he should be disciplined.
