PEGGY NOONAN
Mr. Narcissus Goes to Washington It's springtime, love is in the air, and 14 senators are gazing at the mirror.

You've heard the mindless braying and fruitless arguments, but I'm here to tell you the facts, no matter what brickbats and catcalls may come my way. Lindsey Graham defied the biases of his constituency to do what was right, not what was easy. Robert Byrd put aside personal gain to save our Republic. David Pryor ignored the counsels of hate to stand firm for our hopes and dreams. Mike DeWine protected our way of life. These men are uniters, not dividers. How do I know?
Because they told me. Again and again, and at great length, as they announced The Deal. And I believed them, because I am an idiot. Or as they might put it, your basic "folk" from "back home."
Listening to them I thought of some of the great and hallowed phrases of our Republic. "The rooster who thought he brought the dawn." "The only man who can strut sitting down."
I know they're centrists, but there is nothing moderate about their self-regard. And why should there be? I personally was dazzled by their refusal to bow to the counsels of common sense and proportion, and stirred that they had no fear of justified insult ("blowhard," "puffed up popinjay") as they moved forward in the halls of the United States Senate to bravely proclaim their excellence.

This is one great read. And funny.
One of Peggy's best - ever. She really nailed the part about press conferences after a murderer is finally caught - that has long been a peeve of mine.

Great Peggy Noonan thanks.
The RATS will filibuster again. The Republicans will use the Constitutional Option, and it will work. At least 2 of the 14 deal-makers will vote for cloture. And I predict one of them will be Graham. Not out of any high morality or good sense, but this deal backs him into a corner and the folks back home are majority conservatives.
I's not really shur i get's her point. See, I's 1 of Linday's rubes bak here in Chaaarleston that be angry at him, buts I takes great coomfort in knowing he's so much smaarter than us rubes. Why didn't he said he saved the Senate?? I's feels so much bettor know i's safe from the majority paarty excising their rites to maajority ruule. Lindsay, all I's can told u is while our anger may settle, our memry gonna last way past yo next lection. Hope u & McCain enjoy the pasture we's gonna put u out to retire in.
Signed,
One yo low country rubes

bttt
Too true. Excellent article bump.
You should email that to the esteemed pompous a**.
LOL! You've got to re-write that in the second person and e-mail it directly to Lindsay Graham! Even money he wouldn't know it's satire!
Bravo! Worth saying again.
A firefighter or a policeman going into the burning Twin Towers on 9/11 is a public servant, of the highest order. Senator Graham, et al, you, sirs, are politicians. And I mean that in the most perjorative way possible.
Doh!
/perjorative/pejorative/
Best description of the job yet...
