TIM ROBBINS ON THE MEDIA
MSNBC HARDBALL? | 05/25/05 | FGS

Posted on 05/25/2005 8:18:16 PM PDT by ForGod'sSake

I was channel surfing when I happened to catch Prissy Matthews interviewing Tim Robbins actor/activist(sic)(scraggly beard and all).

The discussion moved to Hollyweird generally, and Prissy asked Robbins about the monolithic liberalism of Hollyweird(the question from Prissy a bit of a shocker in itself).

Paraphrased:

Tim: I don't see Hollyweird as monolithic in its politics, and there is essentially a full spectrum of political beliefs there.

Prissy: Then why is it that everyone we see and hear from Hollyweird appears to be liberal?

Tim: Must be the media.

What, I says to myself?!?! Here's this bleedin' heart from Hollyweird basically saying the media has/is creating what appears to be an industry/cultural political monolith in tinseltown(say it ain't so).

Holy cow! I held my breath waiting for followup.

Still waiting...

Prissy never blinked an eye as he moved on to more important things, whatever they were. I was still waiting for the media comment followup and never heard another word.

Now, media bias is nothing new to us around here, but this coming from a bleedin' heart in such a casual manner left me flabbergasted. Still am.

Hollyweird people are typically so far left that anything left of center looks far right to them.

Borges is...correct! Pynchon's books are among my favorites. The first time I read the scene in Lot 49 in the motel room, when he's describing the movie he was in as a kid, I laughed so hard I started choking. Borges is God, of course. I mean the writer. Then again, I don't know you so...

Sorry if I confused things. My friends are not lefties, but from their description of Hollywood Robbins is full of it--there is no rainbow, no variety of thought with only very, very few exceptions. I'd say off the top of my head that something like 90% of Hwood folk are liberal. If that's what Robbins considers a media creation then he's not living on the same planet as me.

Thanks! This place is like an oasis for me. I came here after watching Chris Matthews for a few minutes. It was either that or the ER for an emergency stomach pump after his embarassing session with John Warner. I'm not thrilled with Warner but he seemed to me to have a point of view, while Matthews was lathering him up real good. Warner probably requested a towel backstage.

In response to the "What Would Jesus Bomb?" t-shirt: I think Sodom and Gomorrah would be a good indication.

Kurt's a libertarian, not a conservative. Big difference.

Why should Tim Robbins deny the obvious? Aside from the precious few Conservatives like Gary Sinise, Patricia Heaton (who is now out of a job due to the cancellation/last season of 'Everybody Loves Raymond')and a few others who can be counted on one hand, Tinseltown is flooded with wall-to-wall Liberals. Let's see how many offers Ms. Heaton gets within the next few months. If she gets any at all.

Remeber what happened to Mel Gibson after he filmed 'The Passion of The Christ?' A good number of these bleeding hearts, including director/producer Steven Speilberg shunned Mr. Gibson and said they would never work with him again. And the Oscars? Mel was completely frosted by the Academy, being nominated for only three minor awards and taking home zilch. The poor guy's been called everything but a child of God by the so-called 'tolerant' class. So as far as I'm concerned, Tim Robbins actually said something I agreed with for a change: A Blind Squirrel Finding An Acorn/Truth-Telling Alert.

I honestly don't remember hearing how The Passion of the Christ made out at the Oscar liberalfest. Thanks for the info. Says a bunch.

Inadvertently I'm sure. It's really tough to tell what he was trying to convey, if anything, with his statements re Hollyweird's worldview vs the media. But in my book when a fire breathing liberal suggests the media may be playing loose with the facts, it gets my attention.

Not a problem. According to Rush, this didn't apparently bother Mr. Gibson too much: the fact that millions of Christians and non-Christians in America and the world saw the film was the only affirmation he was looking for.

The very day that FOX came to town, I quit watching Matthews. It's been two years now and I still don't miss him.

.....Must be the media......

First I'll say "Arnold and Ronald". The man made a true statement about the full spectrum,as in a gradation from the ultra violet to infra red. There really are differences.

There might be a better phrase to quantify the differentiation of political views in Hollywood, one that has only a few on the conservative red end and a predominence of the left on the blue end.

Spectrum describes the gradation of views but does not convey the clumping or more monolithic idealism at the blue end.

He's apparently no dummy. Ever see 'Dead Man Walking'? It's an intelligent film.

No, I didn't. I was reading a biography of Ben Hogan that week.

Anytime a opportunity to see 'Dead Man Walking' comes up, I'll use the time to review more desirable media. :-)

the Oscars have that reputation here but if you look at the films that win Best Picture Oscars...they are, more often then not, on the Conservative side.

That Spielberg story was a rumor. The one time he spoke about it publically he declined comment until he saw the film and was very respectful of Gibson. He actually considered Gibson to play Schindler. A role Gibson sought.
