I was channel surfing when I happened to catch Prissy Matthews interviewing Tim Robbins actor/activist(sic)(scraggly beard and all).
The discussion moved to Hollyweird generally, and Prissy asked Robbins about the monolithic liberalism of Hollyweird(the question from Prissy a bit of a shocker in itself).
Paraphrased:
Tim: I don't see Hollyweird as monolithic in its politics, and there is essentially a full spectrum of political beliefs there.
Prissy: Then why is it that everyone we see and hear from Hollyweird appears to be liberal?
Tim: Must be the media.
What, I says to myself?!?! Here's this bleedin' heart from Hollyweird basically saying the media has/is creating what appears to be an industry/cultural political monolith in tinseltown(say it ain't so).
Holy cow! I held my breath waiting for followup.
Still waiting...
Prissy never blinked an eye as he moved on to more important things, whatever they were. I was still waiting for the media comment followup and never heard another word.
Now, media bias is nothing new to us around here, but this coming from a bleedin' heart in such a casual manner left me flabbergasted. Still am.
I am mad tonight aren't I. I was over at a lib site before I came here for some sanity and the junk they try to pawn off as legitimate is unbelievable. I like going to these lib blogs once in a while to wreak some havoc. Show them the light as they say.
I hope you showered afterwards. :^)
I don't think much of it. Tim isn't exactly the kind of guy you'd want to call from the set of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" when you're stumped.
Sarandon is one of those people who have always looked old. She looked old in 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show'.
He's apparently no dummy. Ever see 'Dead Man Walking'? It's an intelligent film.
That's "Hard-boiled Egg" Chrissy. When he gets a stupid answer from a liberal guest, he quickly changes the topic.
Kurt Russell is a member of the Cato Institute, libertarian/conservative. He laughs a lot....at Hollywood.
Thanks ! My household just erupted with laugher!
"Dammit, Janet!"
I despise that movie! It's a cult that went right by me. Painful.
I stand corrected. I apologize to Mr. Kurt. That means I can watch 'Used Cars' and 'Captain Ron' again!
He's probably referring to Ronald Reagan, Charleton Heston, that woman at Playboy who got fired and a few others in Hollywood who are Republicans. You know, the token conservatives. I think only one per generation is allowed.
Ironically Robbins' 'Dead Man Walking' is very sympathetic to victims of violent crimes. R Lee Ermey is in it. And he radiates decency and integrity.
Pssssst.....Hey, Tim.
There is a difference.

Sure. There are liberals, left wing liberals, and far-left wing liberals. What other political beliefs are there?
Not that I noticed, but then again, I've never payed much attention to him. The guy appeared almost sane.
I have a couple of friends who work in "the business" in Hollywood. Without me even bringing up the subject, they express their complete exasperation with the endless liberalism out there. One friend has acquaintances in the business, and she is a liberal, yet she is being pushed to the right by these folks--after all my years of trying it was living in Liberal Land that finally pushed her over the edge. Another friend works very much in the business--with folks you'd know--and he has turned farther right than I while he's been out there.
In other words, Robbins is a liar.
You're correct of course, it was a cult, it was a painful parody of lifestyles and mocked Hollywood, pop music and middle class America all at the same time.
But the music was great!
