AUSTIN With more than $460,000 raised this year, Texas is second only to Sen. Hillary Clinton's home state of New York in funding the former first lady's bid for re-election.

"Hillary has some very good friends in Texas," said spokeswoman Ann Lewis. "She's very actively raising funds for her Senate re-election campaign, and we're appreciative that her friends in Texas have been able to help."
During the last two years, Texas has been the third-biggest source of campaign cash for New York's junior U.S. senator, according to federal contribution reports.
California, Florida, the District of Columbia, Maryland and Massachusetts round out the list of top Clinton re-election contributions for the first quarter.
In March, Clinton made stops in Dallas, Austin, Houston and McAllen.
"She's a rock star in any party," said Democrat Garry Mauro, who co-hosted a fundraiser in Austin that drew 500. "Oftentimes, I have to twist arms and trade favors to get people to come to fundraisers. But that's not the case when Hillary came."
Texas Republican Party Chairman Tina Benkiser said it is no surprise that Texas is a rich source of campaign cash for candidates from both parties.
"Democrats may raise money in Texas, but they don't win in Texas," she said.
A Dallas Morning News analysis of Clinton's fundraising for this year's first quarter found that South Texas accounted for one-third of the former first lady's Texas contributions, proving that the region is growing in economic clout and political importance.
Also, the analysis lists a number of influential Texans adding to the Clinton re-election contribution pool, including former Gov. Ann Richards; Luci Baines Johnson, daughter of the former president; and former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk.
I like that! (mind if i borrow it?)
I didn't know cankles came from Texas. Maybe it's just an Austin thing.
You didn't get rid of your Aunt Maggie because she drank water out of the toilet, did you?
Every state is burdened with providing shelter for its mentally infirmed population - even those with money. I guess Texas just must have chosen Austin to locate most of its patients.
LOL! Nope - because everything's bigger in Texas.
Austin if full of Lefties but the standard of living is high and all those people from California, Houston and Dallas love it here and are not leaving.
I know people who gave up 200k a year in Houston to work in Austin for 150k. Tim
Nobody - and I mean NOBODY - I know from Houston wants to live in Austin.
If we did, we'd already be living there.
We hold Austin in a special kind of contempt. It's more contemptible than Dallas, even, and y'all KNOW how evil Dallas is. ;)
My guess would have included Houston as well as Austin.
Hey yall, She is only drinking from the toilet because her water bowl is empty again.
Not yet. But we will if she keeps making the coffee out of it.
My commute in Austin in 10 minutes on bike, five in my car, 15 on the bus. I paid 85k for a house in 1988 that is now worth over 500k. In 30 minutes I can be at Lake Travis and in less than five minutes I can be running around Town Lake. The music scene is outstanding and there is always Barton Springs if I want to see dozens of topless coeds.
Did you forget a 1 hr drive to the beach?
(minus any traffic jams)
Thats something not taken for granted up here in Fort Worth.
I will be glad when we put Hillarys presidential hopes to rest once and for all.
They heard the rumors of John McCain/Jeb Bush ticket.
You beat me to it.
I'm not sure Hillary is sharp enough to run the country.
What about Barbara Boxer? She's super intellegent (she endorsed Gore) and would be a fine alternative to the competent yet unsure Clinton. How about BOXER/Hillary in 08!!!
