Woman Jailed for Calling 911 to Complain [about pizza parlor's refusal to deliver]

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An 86-year-old woman was jailed after police said she called 911 dispatchers 20 times in a little more than a half-hour — all to complain that a pizza parlor wouldn't deliver.

Dorothy Densmore was charged with misusing the 911 system, a jail spokeswoman said.

She told dispatchers Sunday that a local pizza shop refused to deliver a pie to her south Charlotte apartment, said Officer Mandy Giannini. She also complained that someone at the shop called her a "crazy old coot," Giannini said.

Densmore wanted them arrested. Instead, police came to arrest her, and she resisted, Giannini said.

It's unusual for someone to face charges for nonemergency calls, Giannini said. But on Sunday, Densmore kept calling 911, even after she was told to stop, Giannini said.

When an officer arrived at her apartment, the 5-foot-tall, 98-pound woman attacked him, Giannini said. Densmore scratched him, kicked and bit his hand, she said.

Densmore also is charged with resisting a public officer and two counts of misusing the 911 system, jail records show.

I laughed so hard at that!

Freak woman: "You're supposed to be here to protect me!"

Dispatcher: "Well, what are we protecting you from, a wrong cheeseburger?"

Where were the parents during the French fry attack?

Where were the parents during the French fry attack?

They thought that they could leave a 13 yr old and a 17 yr old home alone for a little while.

Silly parents!

If we'd acted up such that the cops got involved, whether at our behest or through the intervention of a concerned neighbor or passerby, none of us would have seen daylight for WEEKS.

Sheesh.

You had the same kind of parents that I did.

You should have placed your child in a mental hospital, for one thing. For another, that's not what I am talking about.

Surely you heard of the woman who called 911 in California last year who said her daughter was out of control. The dispatcher said, "Do you want us to shoot her?" It was a BS call, as is any call where someone's life is not on the line.

If you or someone else is not in immediate danger, do not call 911. Leave the lines open for actual emergencies.

Around here we get these rather entertaining jingles on the radio for a number to call for assistance in non-emergency situations, "urgency without emergency." They've done a good job with the jingles. I'm sure I could recall that number through the song in my sleep.

Yes, you are correct in your situation. The calls that I heard when I did a 911 dispatch sit-in were not anywhere near your situation. The one that could've become explosive did get an officer dispatched. Some of the other calls got an officer dispatched also, but not as an emergency. Unless the officer wasn't busy, he would show up right away. The dispatcher was able to defuse a few too. This dispatcher I sat with was very good. 15 years at it.

I'm sorry you had to go through that with your daughter. I hope you are having a nice day today. "smile"

Some people call 911 for the most trivial reasons. I had a roommate who called 911 to test his phone.

Good luck with the job!

Though if you get the job, you might not be able to share many of the worst 'non-emergency' emergency calls here on FR. Or maybe you would?

I have called 911 when I saw a car being vandalized. Not just for life and limb.

I tried the local non-emergency number first, but it wasn't picked up.

This reminds me of when my son was two years old...I walk into the living room and he was on the phone (I mean who would a 2 year old be chatting with???)I asked who he was talking to and he said 911!! I was so petrified that he would do that, I grabbed the phone and hung up.
Seconds later they called back and I apologised profusely, sure I was in deep trouble but they were VERY nice about it
and were just making sure everything was okay. According to them it wasn't unusual for a kid to call, been done before.
Adults should know better....slap her with a big fine!

And some people think they can get away with anything because they are elderly.

Of course. Don't discount the medical factor, though.

Thanks! I don't know about sharing yet. I haven't got that far in the hiring process. I just hope I don't become disgusted in humans. They do some crappy things to each other. I've always been respectful and grateful for our officers, firemen and paramedics. I would be honored to work among them. Truly honored.

It's okay to call 911 when a crime is in process. It might not get priority if there are other calls that are life threatening. That was on my 911 dispatch test.
