Woman Jailed for Calling 911 to Complain [about pizza parlor's refusal to deliver]

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An 86-year-old woman was jailed after police said she called 911 dispatchers 20 times in a little more than a half-hour — all to complain that a pizza parlor wouldn't deliver.

Dorothy Densmore was charged with misusing the 911 system, a jail spokeswoman said.

She told dispatchers Sunday that a local pizza shop refused to deliver a pie to her south Charlotte apartment, said Officer Mandy Giannini. She also complained that someone at the shop called her a "crazy old coot," Giannini said.

Densmore wanted them arrested. Instead, police came to arrest her, and she resisted, Giannini said.

It's unusual for someone to face charges for nonemergency calls, Giannini said. But on Sunday, Densmore kept calling 911, even after she was told to stop, Giannini said.

When an officer arrived at her apartment, the 5-foot-tall, 98-pound woman attacked him, Giannini said. Densmore scratched him, kicked and bit his hand, she said.

Densmore also is charged with resisting a public officer and two counts of misusing the 911 system, jail records show.

Please update the title to "Woman Calls 911 With Pizza Complaint". I ended up changing the article source, and forgot to change the headline.

"Densmore also is charged with resisting a public officer and two counts of misusing the 911 system, jail records show."

2 counts? wouldn't it be 19 or 20 counts if she called 20 times? Or do you get 18 warnings for dialing 911 incorrectly.

Finally! Some common sense has prevailed here.

And no, I am not being sarcastic.

911 is for emergencies. As in only. You don't call 911 because somebody called you a name. You don't call because you cannot control your daughter. You don't call because you cannot find an address. You call when somebody's life is on the line. And that's it.

You mean that lady in California calling 911 because she couldn't get a western burger was wrong to call? The dispatcher was a riot. "Ma'am, I can't send an officer out to enforce a bacon western burger."

YES!

It's unusual for someone to face charges for nonemergency calls, Giannini said.

Well, it shouldn't be.
We can't continue to cater to the least common denominator, slowly drifting to "moron" level.

What is the effect on life threatening real emergencies?

What is the current level of nuisance inappropriate calls to 911 these days?

It is an emergency. At 86 you don't have minutes to spare waiting for a Pizza, time is more precious than Gold. She should sue them for false arrest.

Great to hear the old girl still has her teeth. Lot of folks that age couldn't bite a cop.

I wonder if the pizza parlor (do people really call them that?) would deliver to the jail?

The sweet old dear should have given that a try.

Yes. She should have been arrested and hit with a nice large fine.

re: alzheimer's

I hear if you have an Alzheimer's customer, you can do quite well as a car salesman.

What an idiot. She needs to have her phone disconnected.

BTW: She's probably a hit woman for the Geritol Mafia.
