I would have handled this differently. I would have asked the troopers, "So, did you just leave the State Troopers ball?" Hoping for the answer, "State Troopers don't have balls." 8>) [Advance apologies to any State Trooper types]

Boys will be boys.
Don't lose two good officers to what is politically correct.
Give them some kind of demeaning extra duty to let them know they have a deeper comittment to their sworn duty which always supercedes all choices to satisfy selfish desires.
In other words get a life, grow up and be responsible to your sworn oath!

Howdy, Slim!
I wonder how this is going to play out?
The state cops jurisdiction trumps the city cops, but the fact the state cops were drunk in a definite violation.
Veeeery interesting to see what happens!
(Besides everybody concerned getting their wee wee slapped and the whole thing disappearing under the rug :)

Well, these guys are in a world of hurt for bad timing. The NMSP just settled with a former officer who was tied to a tree, maced, and taunted by several other officers in 2000. It got a lot of media attention.

I know there are good cops, but there are still WAY too many cops who have no business running around with a badge and a gun!

It's because of that evil, awful highway 666 that runs through Gallup.

Maybe they've seen the movie "Super Troopers" one too many times.

" I'm state, and you're only a city cop.''" Kinda shows their attitude.

The headline is a bit ambiguous. Are these State Highway Construction Zone patrolmen or Las Cruces University Police?

"Boys will be boys."?
They are not boys. They are men, and we want our officers to conduct themselves as such.
And how do you know they're "good officers"? Being an officer doesn't automatically make you good. It would seem to me that they are not. The article doesn't even tell us whether or not they were intoxicated at the time.
The officers, among other things, are required to keep the peace. And yet, they were the ones creating a disturbance, which also involved an altercation with police officers. No respect for the "badge".
Would I want those officers in my neighborhood? No. I say fire them. They don't deserve to wear a uniform.
