The compromise deal announced last night on judicial nominations will one day prove to be the opening strike in one of the greatest political battles ever waged in this country. There is much sadness in Chappaqua, for Hillary Clinton has today realized that any remote chance she ever had a becoming president has now evaporatated forever. George Allen was governor before he was elected to the Senate. I suspect it might just be Allen/Rice in 2008.

well, if he does that then he'd be in a much better position. I wouldn't support him for the nomination, though I would reluctanly vote for him for Pres over Hillary.

While McCain may be able to win a naitonal election I do not believe that he can get out of the (R) primary process. Me, and a lot of others like me, will never vote for him as the nominee. He may think this is a grand plan to make a move, but I don't belive it will dividends with the base. There are a great many conservatives who simply don't trust him.
I honestly do not believe that Bill Clinton bait and switch politics will win on this side of the aisle.
My 2 cents.
For what it's worth I also don't belive Jeb would ever run with McCain, the Bush rift he (McCain) is developing is growing wider, and I don't think Jeb will cross that line.

I like your scenario, but I would prefer McCain/Rice to McCain/Jeb.
Now rest assured, I'm not gonna pile-on a FR buddy-----and I am all for anything that will stifle Her Heinous's ambitions to rule us as absolute monarch.........but.
I would not crown as heroes the same people you crowned, nor would I demonize the same people.
As far as the outcome---a McPain/Bush ticket----it's a shocker, but it might very well be----McPain campaigned for GWB, so the Bushies might owe him something. Could be the payoff.

Speaking of sterotypes...I'm not sure the "world" is ready quite yet for Condi on the "new" ticket; Cheney/Allen followed by Allen/Rice could work, since Allen would be a "known quantity" after four years as Veep (and likely an active veep, if Cheney were Prez)...so you have the "comfort factor" to balance the "risk" of electing the first female and/or black veep...I'm just considering perceptions of the "average voter", whose political savvy is not quite that of the average FReeper...LOL!! And I think Hillary would have problems TOO, being a female (and of course, she's just a hideous person to boot, but aside from that...I doubt she'd have as much support as they think, and it's dishonest to run on Bill's coattails, which is exactly what she'd be doing)...
Vote for Cheney in a heartbeat, indeed! and in a nano-second if he has a good running mate! What do we know, after all, about his medical condition, other than what the media reports? One thing we would certainly know is, he will have an impeccable "back-up plan" in place if he has any concerns about it himself, and isn't he actually younger than John "F-in" Kerry? Cheney's very shrewd, keeps a low profile, and it suits him to play his cards close to his chest...hehehe! But most important, I trust his integrity and judgement...so based on that, if he chooses to run I'm gonna be enthusiastic about electing an "older gentleman"!
Glad you liked (g) it...Note..a careful read doesn't say I am advocating it..McCain is NOT my first or second choice..I was constructing a scenario that coudl explain what we have seen occur so far. It works within the parameters of what we already know as gospel..Look, the Clinton adminstration created "broken-glass" Republcians..those who would literally crawl over broken glass to vote against Clintons and Dems...now, we may get the "hold-your-nose" Pubbies..those who will vote for McCain in order to defeat Hillary..
as ridiculous as your theory sounds, who in early 2001 could have predicted Vietnam and Paul O'Neil would be a MAJOR issue in the 2004 election.
I'd say your theory has some plausibility because McCain is extremely cagey and I would not put anything past him, ie becoming a Dem running as an Independant or doing what you say. Very entertaining article.
.....and the fact remains.....we still do not have a candidate suiting up for the 2008 race........
