I would rather have a liberal democrat beat these sobs than have these wolves in sheeps clothing sneaking around and causing so much damage.

We know our enemy, but unfortunately, they are able to fool a lot of people by claiming to be Republican. If I lived in any of these jerks states, and a Republican challenger couldn't beat them in the primaries, then I would hold my nose and cross over to vote for the Democrat.

I think the form it will take depends on the reactions by the federal government. It will initially start as a violent action between the rabid communists and fringe-right groups. I predict the FedGov will then crack down hard, trampling all over everyone's civil rights, thus leading to a generalized war.

YUP! I'm tired of being told to "calm down, we have a compromise, we have confirmation on three, that is the way things work in the Senate, yada yada yada"....so the rant goes from moderates. Screw that! I thought conservatives controlled the Executive and Legislative branches, yet we can't get the same percentage of Judges confirmed as the Clinton administration. Something is terribly WRONG with this picture!!!

In looking at the seven GOP Senators who are parties to this shameful deal, we need to focus our anger where it has a chance of producing actual results. If we (by "we" I mean FReepers and conservatives in general) go after all seven of the Senators, my guess is that we'd make no impact. Pick a couple of targets where there is an actual chance of electing a conservative.

I would prioritize the seven in the following fashion:

• LOW PRIORITY: Blue State RINOs -- Collins (Maine); Snowe (Maine); and Chafee (Rhode Island). Not my favorite Senators, needless to say, but what are you going to do? It's extremely unlikely that there's a conservative in Maine with a chance of knocking out either of the incumbents; and there's no chance whatever of a conservative in Rhode Island (are there any?) defeating Chafee. Sad to say, these three Senators probably strengthened their political hands by participating in this deal. I'd save my ammo for a more vulnerable target.

• MEDIUM PRIORITY: Senate Institutions -- Warner (Virginia); and McCain (Arizona). If Warner runs again in 2008, I would hope that he'd have credible competition from the right in a primary. My guess is he won't run again; he'll be 81 then. It wouldn't hurt to have conservatives lining up behind a candidate by early 2007; maybe warner could be persuaded to read the handwriting on the wall. As for McCain, most FReepers can't get any madder at him than they already were. Nothing has really changed: he can hold his Senate seat as long as he wants, or he can launch, and lose, another Presidential bid.

• HIGH PRIORITY: Prevaricator in a Pivotal State -- DeWine (Ohio). He's perched somewhere between conservatism and full fledged RINOism. He could be beatable in a 2006 primary, given the right circumstances and the right candidate. The danger, of course, is that he'd survive a primary battle, but be weakened enough to lose the general election. And no, you don't want that to happen, no matter how angry you are at him; better a DeWine than the second coming of Metzenbaum. Is it worth the risk to get behind a conservative challenger? In my opinion, yes. Better hurry, though. DeWine is up for reelection next year.

• TOP PRIORITY: Backstabber in a Deep Red State -- Graham (South Carolina). If ever anyone needed a primary opponent, surely it is Lindsey Graham. He's not a true RINO in the Collins/Snowe/Chafee sense, but he has been moving in that direction. I can think of no rational reason not to go after him in 2008. Three reasons: First, Senators are most vulnerable to defeat in their first reelection bid; after two terms, they tend to get entrenched. Graham won his seat in 2002, and will be in his first Senate reelection contest. Second, South Carolina is now safely Republican (absent a cataclysmic national GOP meltdown); so the winner of a 2008 primary would be an overwhelming favorite in the general, especially in a presidential year. No worries about losing the seat to the Dems as a result of a tough primary fight. And third, there's a deep pool of electable conservative talent in South Carolina: current Governor Mark Sanford, who will probably be reelected in 2006; Congressman Bob Inglis from the Greenville-Spartanburg area, who gave Hollings a good run in 1998; Charleston real estate developer Thomas Ravenel, who narrowly lost the 2004 senate primary to Jim DeMint; and many others.

Prioritize. Resources (money and effort) are finite. Spend them where they'll have the greatest chance of making a difference.

I guess that's the big mistake we all made thinking that there were true conservatives in government. By the saying "Actions speak louder than words", these people are no where near being conservative. A growth in the size of federal government certainly isnt conservative to me. This is not to say that there arent any good republicans out there but how do we pick them out of the refuse labeled as republicans? Once people start voting PRINCIPLES OVER POLITICS then we may see a change in the way things are run but as long as a politican is threatening xy and z will occur if they (as a party or individual) are not re-elected, and we vote them back in, we are only getting what we deserve. It's time to stop fooling ourselves. Hillary may get elected in '08 if she runs not because of her politics, but because of the lack of direction the leadership is sending on the right side of the isle.

I live in this district and was very upset when Portman resigned. I want to scream everytime I hear one of Pat DeWine's radio commercials touting him as a "conservative". He is his father's son -- a RINO. He is also a lowlife snake -- he left his pregnant wife for another woman. I would never vote for him. I was talking to the sister of one of the other candidates, and she said that DeRINO the Elder is using his political influence and putting pressure on his contacts for financial backing for sonny-boy. Makes me sick.

So many Republicans these days vote for liberal candidates in the primaries in part because they do not know that those running are liberals, often like the Democrats against which they rail. Many just keep their mouths shut and do as the party establishment tells them to do because after all nationwide "R"s are at an all-time numerical high in all levels of government. Rush Limbaugh often takes the view that all that ultimately matters is to replace a "D" with an "R" whenever and wherever we can.

Senator Elizabeth Dole (R-NC), Chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, issued the following statement on the judicial compromise:

"Although I am pleased that some of the President's qualified judicial nominees are finally getting the fair up or down vote they deserve, I am disappointed that not all nominees will be afforded that same courtesy.

The understanding made by the group of fourteen made clear that judicial philosophy is not a legitimate reason to filibuster qualified judges. If Democrats should choose to continue their unprecedented use of the filibuster, we should immediately move to the constitutional option.

Although I believe a vote on the constitutional option was certainly justified today, I am glad that it has not been taken off the table for future confirmation debates."

These 7 dwarfs should be the target of a class action suit by Republicans from their states for breach of contract with the Republican voters. I'd like to see someone start this. I think could be a lesson taught.

Thanks for you well thought out comments... I agree that if we insist on a more "conservative" candidate to defeat Snowe, Chafee, or Collins, we might lose the seat alltogether.... I think we can still express our displeasure to them.. but we need to really think this out.

Do you suppose this is the reason why Jorge Boosh won't secure the border and why he refuses to apprehend and deport illegal aliens? Why he wants illegal aliens to get mortgage loans to buy homes?

The French and Dutch voted NO on the EU Constitution, and the British are expected to. People in civilized countries are rejecting one-world government, and Amerians need to as well.

Call your Senators and Congressman and tell them you want to be an American, not a "North American." Ask them how they plan to vote on CAFTA when it comes up for a vote this summer. If they waffle, you know you're talking to a sell-out.

As an Arizonan, I know that Senator John McCain has already sold out. He plans to run for President in 2008 because he thinks Americans in other states don't know.

LOU DOBBS, CNN ANCHOR: Good evening, everybody. Tonight, an astonishing proposal to expand our borders to incorporate Mexico and Canada and simultaneously further diminish U.S. sovereignty. Have our political elites
gone mad? We'll have a special report. blood.

DOBBS: Border security is arguably the critical issue in this country's fight against radical Islamist terrorism. But our borders remain porous. So porous that three million illegal aliens entered this country last year, nearly all of them from Mexico.

Now, incredibly, a panel sponsored by the Council on Foreign Relations wants the United States to focus not on the defense of our own borders, but rather create what effectively would be a common border that includes Mexico and
Canada.

CHRISTINE ROMANS, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): On Capitol Hill, testimonycalling for Americans to start thinking like citizens of North America and treat the U.S., Mexico and Canada like one big country.

ROBERT PASTOR, IND. TASK FORCE ON NORTH AMERICA: The best way to secure the United States today is not at our two borders with Mexico and Canada, but at the borders of North America as a whole.

ROMANS: That's the view in a report called "Building a North American Community." It envisions a common border around the U.S., Mexico and Canada in just five years, a border pass for residents of the three countries, and a freer flow of goods and people.

Task force member Robert Pastor.

PASTOR: What we hope to accomplish by 2010 is a common external tariff which will mean that goods can move easily across the border. We want a common security perimeter around all of North America, so as to ease the travel of
people within North America.

ROMANS: Buried in 49 pages of recommendations from the task force, the brief mention, "We must maintain respect for each other's sovereignty." But security experts say folding Mexico and Canada into the U.S. is a grave breach of that sovereignty.

FRANK GAFFNEY, CENTER FOR SECURITY POLICY: That's what would happen if anybody serious were to embrace this strategy for homogenizing the United States and its sovereignty with the very different systems existing today in Canada and Mexico.

ROMANS: Especially considering Mexico's problems with drug trafficking,human smuggling and poverty. Critics say the country is just too far behind the U.S. and Canada to be included in a so-called common community. But the task force wants military and law enforcement cooperation between all three countries.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Indeed, an exchange of personnel that bring Canadians and Mexicans into the Department of Homeland Security.

ROMANS: And it wants temporary migrant worker programs expanded with full mobility of labor between the three countries in the next five years.

ROMANS: The idea here is to make North America more like the European Union. Yet, just this week, voters in two major countries in the European Union voted against upgrading -- updating the European constitution. So clearly, this is not the best week to be trying to sell that idea.

DOBBS: Americans must think that our political and academic elites have gone utterly mad at a time when three-and-a-half years, approaching four years after September 11, we still don't have border security. And this group of elites is talking about not defending our borders, finally, but rather creating new ones. It's astonishing.

ROMANS: The theory here is that we are stronger together, three countries in one, rather than alone.

DOBBS: Well, it's a -- it's a mind-boggling concept. Christine Romans, thank you, as always.

I’m far from a McManiac and don’t trust McCain as far as I could throw him.

McCain/Kennedy, McCain/Feingold, McCain’s amnesty bill, giving in to Democrats way to many times; just to name a few.

I am hopeful that Palin will help keep McCain on a conservative agenda.

Given the choice of Obama or McCain, McCain gets my vote.

Btw, of the GOP doesn’t realize it now and I’m talking down to their bones realization, that they would not be pulling ahead of Obama and bringing state and local elections with them without the base, 2006 can happen again, easily.
