Only three of President Bush’s nominees will be given the courtesy of an up-or-down vote, and it's business as usual for all the rest. The rules that blocked conservative nominees remain in effect, and nothing of significance has changed. Justice Clarence Thomas, Justice Antonin Scalia, and Chief Justice William Rehnquist would never have served on the U. S. Supreme Court if this agreement had been in place during their confirmations. The unconstitutional filibuster survives in the arsenal of Senate liberals.

My FRiend, as of tonight, THAT dream is dead as a doornail. At this point, I only wonder how many seats the Republicans will LOSE in the 2006 and 2008 elections.
You're right. Instead, what the Dems have done is isolated the worst of our guys. It's "Jumpin' Jim Jeffords" all over again....The Repubs get a 50-50 split in the Sen, so peel-off one limp-wristed Republican. Repubs get a 5 vote majority, so peel-off six limp-wristed Republicans. They'll be down another four seats in '07, so they'll work to peel off 10 limp-wristed Republicans. The "Stupid Party" seems to fit.
For Snow, Chaffee and DeWine, conservatives just sit out of the election in 2006 and these three who live in Blue States will lose by a narrow margin (RINO vs Liberal Dems) or win by a very slim margin (message is till sent). That will send a message to the remaining four RINO, change or put their reelection in jeopardy. GWB will submit the remaining four again after 2006.
This is what my husband has been telling me all night. He doesn't think we'll ever get another conservative on the Court.

He may be right, but I want to see what happens when President Bush pushes beyond these three justices and puts forward the names of another three of four conservative justices. You know he'll do that.
If Frist and gang fold at round two, then I will agree with Dr. Dobson.
But the most important nominations of all are the SCOTUS nominations. Suppose Cruella de Hillary works some voodoo and by hook or crook ascends to the throne in 2008. You can bet some liberal justices will be looking for tag team replacements. We have got to be in a position to stuff those nominees.
We have GOT to add an additional seat or three in the Senate in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles. That is vital.

Well, according to a former Daschle aide, Graham was quick to work with Daschle and the minority on a number of issues. After one such meeting, Graham emerged from Daschle's office, walked to the door, turned around, and proclaimed loudly for the Daschle's entire staff to hear:

My family and I have been faithful supporters and active members of the Republican Party here in New Hampshire for years. The last Democrat I voted for was Jimmy carter in the 70’s. Due to the extreme cowardice and near treasonous disregard for the Constitution of the United States shown by the Republican members of the Senate of the United States, who decided to cave in to unreasonable demands from the Democrat side of the aisle, I will cease to provide contributions to the Republican National Committee. Until this party remembers who voted for it and behaves in a manner consistent with what its base believes in, you will not receive so much as one penny from me again.

I have an informed hunch that all of this jockeying is intended to clear the way for Janice Rogers Brown to get the next open SCOTUS seat. That will likely be when Rehnquist retires. Brown is a bona fide Scalia-type conservative.
But we need more than one, we need three more.

How about calling it "The McCain Mutiny", and John McCain is the essential, "Captain Queeg". I caught sight of him on MSNBC with Chris Matthews, and he actually sounded as demented as Queeg!
Doesn't the senate majority leader get to make appointments to commitee posts? If so we'll see if Frist has the balls to punish these renagades.
They have shown utter disrespect for him as the leader - they have gone behind his back and done their own deal (unlike the dems who were doing it under Reid's control).
He should take this as a personal slap in the face and return the favor, if he's a man.
