Since Pryor, Brown and Owen are "approved" as far as being filibuster proof; won't the Dems be violating their own agreement if they filibuster Saad and Meyers.........
You have Pryor, Brown and Owen as the new "litmus test." If a nominee is not clearly in excess as far as ideology of these three, then you can't filibuster. We will have the last laugh yet. P.S. If you want to feel better about this unfortunate deal, go over to DU and you'll see that most of them are on suicide watch.
We just need to keep up the pressure and also try to defeat McCain and especially Graham.
Reid has already said they're going to filibuster Saad.
DU SHOULD be as angry as us. The Senate did nothing but protect themselves. They didn't help anyone. They punted.
I was at DU earlier. Anything that's got them that upset can't be all bad, LOL! They are having a royal fit!!!
They think the 3 judges that got the nod are the "worst of the worst" (their words).
Pretty funny reading if you can stomach the language.
If the 7 Dems who agreed to this memo agree to the filibuster, then they've broken the agreement and all bets are off, and the constitutional option is back on the table!!!!!!!!!!!
Read this section of the agreement carefully... there's lots of wiggle room for the Dems:
A. Future Nominations. Signatories will exercise their responsibilities under the Advice and Consent Clause of the United States Constitution in good faith. Nominees should only be filibustered under extraordinary circumstances, and each signatory must use his or her own discretion and judgment in determining whether such circumstances exist.
I addressed this on another thread. They aren't "in like Flynn" since they are not addressed in the agreement. Therefore, if Frist were serious about up and down votes, he should do the following. Have the vote on Priscilla Owens to trigger the compromise agreement first. But then, instead of bringing up Janice Rogers Brown, he should schedule debate on one of the judges NOT guaranteed an up or down vote in the compromise. The RINOs think they have won because they can still campaign as not having voted against the Constitutional option. Frist needs to force them to go on record as supporting the filibuster. Instead, they are just assuming he will go along with their little deal to which he wasn't a signatory. He needs to demonstrate to them the same level of loyalty that they demonstrated to him. He also needs to have a nice talk with the head of the Appropriations committee....it should be standard practice that all pork provisions placed into bills by these traitors will not be included in any bill until they vote with their caucus to eliminate judicial filibusters.
Hey! Might it be possible that the RINOs on that surrender panel agreed, under the table, to vote against these three. Do not put anything past these morons.
If Democrats have basically agreed to give Brown and Owen passes, whom they have trashed beyond recognition the past few weeks, how are they actually going to label anyone else an "extraordinary case"?
I agree. The Dems will lose their liberal base and will become a party no more. And a bonus of conservatives remembering all of the Rinos when they come up for re-election and defeated by true Republican challengers.
Precisely. Reid and Company are painted into a corner.
McCain is working for himself. He'll screw W in any way that makes McCain look good. Even the three who have been "blessed" may be filibustered. All we have is 7 Republicans who, in the name of compliance with what they believe is a good faith agreement, will vote against changing the rules (or face condemnation by the crapweasels and their press) and allow a filibuster.
As this plays out, McCain is again a turn coat. Frist, thankfully, is shown to be one heck of an inept leader. And, the dems win another brilliant progaganda victory without giving anything up.
"You have Pryor, Brown and Owen as the new "litmus test.""
The old "litmus test" was an OK by the ABA!
I just caught that on the replay of the press conference.
Bwahahahahahaha.
Bolton is on the calendar. So is Myers.
i was wondering the same thing.
by the reading of the agreement it seems that these three are the litmus test for extreme and anyone equal or less can't be filibustered.
of course the dems can't be trusted but that's a given.
I don't know about that......... Didn't Bork and Thomas also have ABA approvals...........
Go to Daily Kos - His enjoying the misery here at FR!!!
"...each signatory must use his or her own discretion..."
The key word is discretion. Remember, 'discretion is the better part of valor'! The dems have no valor and NO honor.
We have been f**ked by the fickle finger of fate!
Owens view is not considered worthy of a filibuster.
I LIKE that standard.
I bet they've got 6 Republican "nay" votes already lined up.
If Brown and Owens are rejected 49-51, it's game, set, and match to the RATs.
