President Bush Won Big Tonight, the Democrats fell in the trap (Vanity Post)

Posted on 05/23/2005 7:13:00 PM PDT by alwaysrepublican

Tonight the compromise allowed three judges for an up and down and vote. These judges Prior, Owens, Rogers Brown were the most abused by the Democrats, the left wing liberals, and their media whores. These were the most extreme of the extraordinary circumstances of the all President Bush nominees and any future filibuster will be very difficult once these three judges are approved. Moreover, and most importantly, if when there is a vacancy in the US Supreme Court, President Bush can appoint any of these three judges to the SCOTUS and no one can filibuster them. It is over we tricked the Democrats and they fell right in our trap.

Cheer up.

You don't care about principle. You care about appearances. Judges ARE the principle. I stand for winning on the judges. To hell with appearances.

If W and Rove had any hand in this, the rats have indeed become trapped. Let's wait a bit until we see what happens.

W, Rove and Cheney are formidable opponents.

... Reid and Schumer are much happier about this than Frist

Exactly. Reid--who never smiles--was grinning. I believe that McCain torpedoed Frist in order to get an advantage going into the 2008 GOP Presidential primaries.

We get all but two of judges confirmed.

And what about the other two???? Hmmmmm????

When the minority party gets to vote on judicial nominations, via a filibuster, before the full Senate gets to vote THAT IS WRONG! And it has never happened before in the history of this nation. And the pubbies did, in fact, cave if they agreed to this delay tactic.......

Not at all. But I do not see as a crushing defeat to us as most here are trying to make it. In fact I still believe it is a big win as I briefly argued in my vanity post.

Yeah right, they are all waiting to jump on the Social Security Reform bandwagon, Benedict Graham, probably could get them to support his extreme left wing Social Security Reform plan, but if you think any of the Dems are going to vote for any kind of meaningful SS reform, well, I'll have some of what you're drinking.

And I must have missed the part where the Dems said, "they wouldn't do this (again). They will do it with the 2-4 nominees that have been betrayed tonight, and they reserve the right to do it for any "extreme" nominees. Extreme = Conservative, in case you were wondering.

It won't work.

It's still a pig.

You might want to give him a link to your vanity post if you want him to refute the content.

It's certainly a compromise, but a better deal for Republicans than Democrats. We might not have had the votes for the nuclear option. The Democrats will still look like obstructionists, and the nculear option is still on the table before Bush leaves office.

The goal is to get conservative judges on the bench. When you're more interested in winning pi&&ing contests, you've gone off track.

I agree. The nuclear option is not written in stone and we can use it anytime. The conservatives that are upset have the names of rinos etched in their minds and that is good. The Bush plan, as Rush has hinted is the total destruction of the Democrat Party. That's a good thing.

Well they can filibuster, sure, but, you are right in that it will be much harder to stop them after they just voted for them. Of course, they will try.

I betcha Brown will be the nominee.

No We didn;t win. We lost the PR war bigtime because they backed down...The Nuclear option is effectively dead from here on out becuase the "moderates" will have praised heaped on them and they will not budge in the future...

Most people here will see the victory when Owens is confirmed, and they would forget about their anger and outrage tonight.

And Scarbourough just stated that he lost the conservative vote in 08, while Frist gains it.

You cannot win the Pubbie nomination without the conservative vote.

If they break their promise, the nuke option happens still

What promise? The Democrats didn't promise anything! They only said that they would restrict filibusters to "extraordinary" circumstances, with the definition of "extraordinary" left up to each senator. So what's to stop them from filibustering? And if they do, they'll accuse the Republicans of "breaking their word" if the Repubs go nuke, and the MSM will carry their water for them.

You're delusional...

I agree with you. The long term is what the Pubbies and Bush have in mind. The Dems got the appearance of a short term victory (even though we got some good judges!) which will not last very long.
