Come on batman, you keep making the assumption that these RINOs are principled Republicans. They are not, never were, and they agreed to let the Democrats save face as they were about to lose. Frist does not have a gun to force them to obey his wishes. The Dems saved face by giving in and saying it was a win. It was an unprincipled loss to give in on the three if they thought they are unfit to sit on the bench.

We still don't know whether the moderate Democrats mean it when they say they will not filbuster except in "extraordinary" circumstances. (I suspect some of them mean it) If they are really saying that they don't want to use filbusters against Judicial Nominees-- then the Republicans get the judges they want. If they are lying, then we will be free to invoke the Nuclear Option. What the media says about it is not the issue anymore, everyone that matters knows they are liberals.

When you wash it all and hang it up to dry, nothing really changes except three judges get confirmed. Then we dance again.

My guess, the dims' hope is a judge comes up in the rotation that they can find a better attack for.

But the damage is that it is now going to get harder to say judges are too conservative, now that they let Owens and Brown through. The dems are still teetering on the edge.

It will be interesting to see how many votes Brown, Owens, Pryor get on the floor. Especially if they get at least 60

No, what will be really interesting is if they get 49.

"Elections are supposed to have CONSEQUENCES!"

They do. They decide who will be called "Mr. Chairman" for the next two years.

2) the GOP moderates actually TRUST the WORD of DEMOCRATS!

Imo, you get a prize for getting the big picture. My sentiments exactly. I about hurled when I heard one of them say "This is all based on trust."
Do these people learn nothing, absolutely NOTHING from the past?

P.S. When Durbin is giddy with glee and Schumer looks the cat that ate the canary, you know it's a crappy deal.

"we commit to oppose the rules changes in the 109th Congress...any amendment to or interpretation of the Rules of the Senate that would force a vote on a judicial nomination by means other than unanimous consent or Rule XXII."

Worth repeating.

You don't understand squat. You are dead wrong. Members of the President's party will not make any deal with the President's appointments without at least informing the White House. If they did it blind-sighting the White House, they would permanently face the wrath of the President. Politics could be your mother's milk, but you are probably lactose intollerant.

We'll see.
No definitions.
They can say they voted for those judges in exchange for the deal - nothing more.

Nobody said (certainly not the Dems) that the three judges for whom cloture will be voted are not extreme in every sense of the word. The Dems agreed to cloture for these three nutters in exchange for taking the nuke option off the table for this term of Congress. It sets no precedent whatsoever for who is deemed extreme, or what is an extraordinary circumstance, and certainly does not close the door to ideology being used as an extraordinary circumstance

This deal is a load of cr@!` It is not compromise, but capitulation. And I say that as somebody who did agree that a certain form of compromise was acceptable. But this comrpomise treats a couple of nominees, Saad and Myers, as pawns. It makes them not people, but expendable objects. And that is unconscionable. When BOTH of those men were nominated, years ago, there was no reason to believe they would be denied up-or-down votes. Their expectations, based on 214 years of history, were that they would be afforded up or down votes. I’ve seen, first-hand, the torment that judicial nominees go through. They don’t deserve to be treated like expendable pawns. That’s why ANY agreement that failed to afford fair votes for all the already pending nominees is not a compromise but a sell-out. Now, if the deal had been fair votes for all pending nominees, PLUS filibusters only in “extraordinary circumstances” for FUTURE nominees, then anybody who is asked to have his/her name submitted would know in advance what he is getting into. Everybody would understand the rules going in, and, while not optimal (optimal is killing all filibusters), it would have been better than an attempt that fails (fail because of gutless GOP senators) to kill all filibusters. I should be rejoicing right now because Bill Pryor, the guy I’ve most championed, will get a fair vote. But my heart goes out to Saad and especially Myers — Myers, because I see no way that he would fail to get 50 votes plus Cheney if he actually was afforded a fair chance. (more…)

I think we should spin this as a win for us, LOUD AND PROUD!

Because that will REALLY piss them off. Even if we don't think it's the best deal, as long as we are cheering and saying it's a good deal, the lemmings on the other side will turn beet red.

It's already been proven that they're irked and they think that they lost. So, if we spin it as a win, it will only make them madder.

I don't like this deal, but I think you are right about this. If the GOP doesn't think it is an EC, the deal is off the table.

Now, what are the odds the RINOs will decide it isn't an EC? Slim to none, and Slim just left town. We've been stabbed in the back. Again.

The only people I feel like donating to are the opponents of the RINO's.

Otherwise, my checkbook is closed.
