That's what he said today on Meet the Press. Could have been a mistake, but knowing Dean he probably does think Osama bin Laden is innocent of 9/11.

The commission he cited was referring to Saddam, of course. My question is whether Dean actually knows that. It's as true of politicians as of everyone else - every time you say "nobody's that stupid" somebody will prove you wrong.

After living through the Eugene McCarthy - George McGovern - New Left "Bring it all down, man" era I expected real trouble (and we got it) as the New Leftist aged and converted the traditional Democrat Party to the Rat Party.
What I did not expect was that a few of them would be comedians! I like it. Monty Python would be jealous.

"That is false." Well, d*mn, Howie. I'm sure glad you cleared that up. < /sarcasm >

If you read the context of the quote, I think Governor Dean meant to say, "Saddam Hussein" and instead accidentally said "Osama Bin Ladin."
But the thing that really bothered me the most, which the 9-11 Commission said also wasn't true, is the insinuation that the president continues to make to this day that Osama bin Laden had something to do with supporting terrorists that attacked the United States. That is false. The 9-11 Commission, chaired by a Republican, said it was false. Is it wrong to send people to war without telling them the truth. And the truth was Osama bin Laden was a very bad person who was doing terrible things, but that Iraq was never a threat to the United States.
While I disagree with Gov. Dean here (anyone who tries to kill our President, as Hussein did, and harbors terrorists, as Hussein did, is a threat to America), I think he probably just got his names mixed up.

Man, This guys is really off his rocker.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy watching him screw the pooch for the dems.

Holy Cripes....in reading the transcripts, it seems Russert forced Dean to tap dance and change almost every answer/position Dean was questioned about.
Did the show show what I'm reading in the transcripts ?

Osama bin Laden had something to do with supporting terroristsHe HAD to mean to say Saddam Hussein. Not even Howard Dean is insane enough to say THAT.

He obviously mispoke. Let's not make a big deal out of this besides to poke fun. He also misspoke about the log in eye etc... and I think called it something else. It doesn't matter. I'd rather work on substance then bash people for simple mistakes.
More interestingly is his attempt to hide bernie sanders socialism in lexicon.

Okay, maybe there is
something to the rumor that Dr. Dean actually works for Mr. Rove. ;-)
Whatever causes these whacko pronunciations from Dr. Dean, I just hope that the Democrats keep him. He is invaluable.

I believe we were just talking about the quality of 'Rat leadership these days.
Yep, Reid needs to stay.

Dean is so delusional. Only good thing is the more he talks the lower the Rats chances of ever winning again goes.

Also I find it ironic that "unethical Reublicans" like Tom DeLay need to leave office while Hillary's fundraiser is currently indicted and of course the ethically challenged Bill Clinton had to stay for the good of the American people.

I actually think this is the most interesting exchange in the whole interview:
[MR. RUSSERT: In your home state of Vermont, there's a vacancy for the United States Senate about to occur. Bernie Sanders, the congressman from Vermont, wants to run for that seat. He is a self- described avowed socialist.
DR. DEAN: Well, that's what he says. He's really a populist.
MR. RUSSERT: But is there room in the Democratic Party for a socialist?
DR. DEAN: Well, first of all, he's not a socialist, really.
MR. RUSSERT: He...
DR. DEAN: He hasn't said that for a while.
MR. RUSSERT: Oh, he has a--he wrote in his book: "Outside or in the House, I am a Democratic socialist."
DR. DEAN: Well, a Democratic socialist--all right, we're talking about words here. And Bernie can call himself anything he wants. He is basically a liberal Democrat, and he is a Democrat that--he runs as an Independent because he doesn't like the structure and the money that gets involved. And he actually has, I think, some good points about campaign finance reform. The bottom line is that Bernie Sanders votes with the Democrats 98 percent of the time. And that is a candidate that we think...
MR. RUSSERT: So you'd support him?
DR. DEAN: We may very well end up supporting him.]
It's fun watching a Democrat squirm when they're forced to either defend or denounce their socialist views.

If I'm following his argument correctly, it's that Tom Delay has absolutely done things which should land him in jail, and it's only a matter of time before he's sent there. But Osama bin Laden might not have had anything to do with 9/11 and Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and Osama bin Laden has done some terrible things and the Bush administration should concentrate on jobs and that there's too much mercury in the air because the Bush administration cares too much about jobs and if social security is not fixed, then benefits will have to be cut 27% but there's nothing wrong with social security and it shouldn't be fixed and there's no reason to send troops to Afghanistan and we should have sent more troops to Afghanistan.

THAT BOY--Screamin' Dean--is just plain insane.
Common knowledge.

DR. DEAN: I said I wasn't sure, but I said I thought there probably were. That was the truth. It was underlined by the 9-11 Commission, headed, again, by a Republican, a well-respected group of people. I don't think you send American men and women to war, first of all without properly equipping them, and secondly without telling the truth to their parents about why it is we're asking them to make that sacrifice. So those are the kinds of things that I think are very bad about the Republicans. I'm confused. Did he really mean 9/11 or did he mean Iraq?
