Poll: N.Y. Voters Turning Red?

Deep-blue New York could become a red state in the 2008 presidential election, a new poll reveals.

The state voted for President Bush over Sen. John Kerry in the 2004 election, 58 percent to 41 percent. But if the 2008 election were held today, New Yorkers said they would vote for former New York City Republican Mayor Rudy Giuliani over Kerry, 49 percent to 42 percent, with the rest uncertain, according to the Fox News Poll. Giuliani also had a 2-percentage-point edge over the state’s own Democratic senator, Hillary Clinton.

Even Sen. John McCain beat out Sen. Clinton in the poll, 42 percent to 41 percent, with 17 percent undecided.

But when pollsters asked about the 2006 race for Clinton’s senate seat, New Yorkers chose Clinton over Giuliani, 53 percent to 43 percent.

Clinton had a sizeable edge over New York Gov. George Pataki (59-36) and Jeanine Pirro and Edward Cox, two relative unknowns who nevertheless got about 25 percent of the votes in the poll conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc.

"New Yorkers have become very comfortable with Mrs. Clinton as their senator, and she will be very difficult to beat in a re-election race,” said Brad Coker, managing director of Mason-Dixon.

"A race for the presidency, however, is a completely different ballgame and even among her supportive constituents in New York there are some who are not sure she is right for that job.” Among the poll’s other findings:

* 65 percent believe that if Clinton runs for re-election to the senate, she should also announce her intention to run for president in 2008.

* 54 percent said Giuliani could be more trusted to handle terrorism, compared to 30 percent for Clinton.

* Those polled view Giuliani as "more likeable” and "tougher” than Clinton.

* 30 percent of New Yorkers think Clinton is "too liberal.”

Guilani and McCain are not conservatives.

I still hold Guilani mostly accountable for Hillary, due to his last minute drop-out decision due to "prostate cancer."

Call me cruel, but I still don't believe he dropped out due to cancer.

If he was too sick to run for US Senate, why was he out hoofing around the city one month after the 200 election.

Also, only six months later, on the morning of 9/11, he was literally running around the city like a Ninja warrior, which would be unusual for someone with prostate cancer. And he hasn't slowed down since.

I believe Guilani got cold feet, and that his internal polling showed he would likely lose.

Since he didn't want to lose, he relied on his prostate cancer as an excuse to drop out.

I'm sure there are some who would call me a cynical jerk for my opinion, but how else to explain Guilani's miraculous recovery right after the 2000 election.

If they are talking about the city, I would say that that is about right, maybe it is more like 35% conservative and 65% percent liberal. I think that there are hardly any moderates, though you can get through to older era Democrats of the sort that would have voted for Reagan if you work hard enough.

YOu do have to realize that a lot of Conservatives register as Democrats to screw up the primaries.

New Yorker liberals are just as amazing as the ones in SF, or LA. You have to see it to believe it.

What is so great about the Tax-loving, illegal alien-loving, womanizing, gay-supporting, gun grabbing Ruina Giussolini anyway?

Guilani was a fusion party candidate. New York Politics is very very complicated. He's a Republican, he's just not a conservative.

Largely true, although, unlike Chicago, San Fran or Seattle, there are Republican voting nabes in the city limits. These include Pelham Bay, City Island, and eastern Throggs Neck (Bronx), Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Gerritsen Beach (Brooklyn), Maspeth, Middle Village and Glendale (Queens), along with all of Staten Island south of the SI Expressway.

After emailing Carl Limbacher, I tried using their NewsMax Correction email form to post a correction in the second sentence, but only got a Delivery Failure [joev@newsmax.com].

So I phoned their office and let their receptionist know that unless Newsmax corrects this ASAP that their journalistic credibility would suffer and our support for NewsMax would wane significantly.

So far, there has been no correction posted.

I know this sounds negative, but many (if not most) of the longtime Freepers have pretty much discounted Newsmax as a source of reliable news.

Other than cases, like this one, where they are regurgitating another news organization's poll or reporting on what someone said during an interview on television.

I'm not sure you can lay claim to the title "journalist" if you've never done a piece of original reporting.

I agree. The guy did an AMAZING job cleaning up NYC, but I'd really HATE to have to vote for him for president.

Ras is now saying the beast gets 30% "Definitely vote for.".
For all the worry warts that love to sit around dreading her, the next part of his report is very enlightening.
37% says they would definitely vote against her.
More: 45% say she is a liberal. Considering the breakdown of registrations nationwide, 45% shows she hasn't fooled a single voter.

Since I'd rather scrub toilets than visit DU, what is a "DU dump"?

Thanks, MS
