If China was to seize Taiwan, does the US have the capability, as well as the will, to liberate the territory?

My "Nope" was to this question:

Can China Defeat the United States in a Conventional War?

They can't invade the US and hope to win.

But to declare war on them if they take Taiwan is an other story - I would like to hear about that, too.

Why would we want to fight them?

Theirs or ours?

capability: yes, no doubt about it

the will: well, let the msm churn into overdrive and then the answer is a big, fat, ted-kennedy-socialist, NO!

If an actual full blown war to be declared by both sides, the US could defeat China without sending a single troop. We can destroy them at the push of a button in a matter of minutes. They do not have the ability to do that to us.

I heard the Chinese have a secret plan to place urine in a popular brand of soft drinks favored by Americans.

Is there such a thing as a "conventional" war? All is love and fair in war, I thought.

We fought China in Vietnam by proxy and together with the leftists present on our own turf assisting in the communist cause, the U.S. was unable to finish the job. You have to remember, the Chinese leaders place little value on human life and they have many lives to donate to what would likely be a very protracted engagement. It is for certain, the U.S. would have to have a draft to sustain the effort and the MILITARY leaders would have to be the directors of the war, not the stinking LEFT-WING POLITICIANS.

Of course China could defeat us in a conventional war. Let's not be so patriotic that we don't consider reality. How large is China's population and how much of that are they willing to use for cannon fodder? They could just overrun us with people and increasingly we are dependent on China and other foreign countries for materials. Globalization is a very bad foreign policy, with possibly dire long term consequences for the US as a sovereign nation. You can't fight a war with Big Macs.

Don't forget, we sent them a lot of technology during the Clinton admin and we are continuing to do business with them and bolster their economy and ability to do war against us. We might be able to beat them in a nuclear war, of course - but the poster is talking about a conventional war.

I don't believe we will end up in an actual shooting war - China may simply be able to defeat us economically especially as we ship more and more of our basic industrial functions over seas. If it comes to a showdown over Taiwan, I'm afraid we will fold. Too many heavy duty corporate economic interests in China - that's such an enormous market and far too many corporate types have a loyalty to a market share rather than to their country.

I doubt that we could effectively liberate Taiwan if China were to seize it.

I think if China were to seize Tiawan they would put soldiers on the island in nearly a 1:1 ratio with the Tiawanese population. If they were to succeed or get close to that our only option would be a drawn out blockade operation that would undoubtedly kill most of the Tiawanese population if not all of them.

That wouldn't be a viable option for us, so in essence we would do nothing. The only way we can win is to prevent the Chinese seizing Taiwan in the first place. You can always count on our treasonous media to make it look like we started the fight, so the will just won't be there.

In summary, Taiwan is screwed the minute that China makes the decision to take it.

The latest I heard is that they have a total of 10 million trained to serve in their military, including reserves.

Trautman: You bring that many men, just remember one thing.

Trautman: A good supply of body bags.

With our involvement in Iraq, no way do we have the manpower and material to eject the Chicoms from Taiwan. However, the strategy will be to prevent them from ever gaining a substantial foothold. The battle will be in the air and in the waters around Taiwan. If you control those, then any invasion will fail. This battle will be won or lost by our Navy and Air Force, not the Army and Marine Corps.

I don't think there could be a conventional war between us. It would quickly go nuclear.

Can China Defeat the United States in a Conventional War?

No.

They could, however, inflict heavy casualties on us before it was over, which would send the appeasers on the left into a tizzy and lead to street demonstrations designed to demoralize the populace and weaken support for the war effort. In other words, the left would be doing exactly what they are doing now in the WOT.
