LOS ANGELES - A Muslim woman who said she ordered a Quran through Amazon.com only to find profanity and religious slurs written on its cover page asked Wednesday for an apology and a full investigation by the online retailer.
Azza Basarudin, 30, said that she received the Quran by mail on May 5 after ordering it through a used books division of Amazon.com that allows customers to order directly from third-party sellers approved by the company.
When she opened the Quaran, Barasudin said she found profanity and the phrase "Death to all Muslims" written on the inside page in thick black marker. Basarudin, a graduate student in women's studies at UCLA, said she was overwhelmed by fear similiar to what she felt after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks when her sister and mother were targets of anti-Muslim slurs.
"I dropped the book because I didn't know what to do," she said at a news conference at the Islamic Center of Southern California. "I was paralyzed after 9/11 - I couldn't leave my house for a couple of weeks - and I realized that fear was coming back."
Salam Al-Marayati, executive director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, said his orginization wants a public apology and investigation from Amazon.com, as well as the firing of those responsible for mailing the desecrated book. He would also like Amazon.com to fund educational programs that foster religious tolerance.

She should be stoned for dropping it and desecrating it further shouldn't she?
These people are worshipping an object.
I worship God and accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. I honor and respect the words of the Bible, but the physical book is stiil just ink and paper.
The truth is in the word not the ink.
I guess she was frozen in fear from May 5th till today.
That would be strike two..
If she bought it used, could be the former owner converted away from the moon god to the God and wrote stuff on the book. That wouldn't be Amazon's fault at all.
If it were a new book, it would be free of everything and if somewhere it got wrote on, then it should be replaced.
Problem these days is you can't know if the complaining party did this to make the news or to try and get bucks from Amazon.
BS!
it was likely part of her amazon order : 1 Quran, 1 set of permanent markers, 1 subscription to Newsweek. that was her order.
Imagine the fear that the people on the 108th floor felt as they prepared to jump to their deaths. Somehow I think that fear was a bit more palpable than the fear that someone feels when they open up a book that has mean things written in it.
I ordered some pornography from Amazon and someone had painted burkhas on the models with a magic marker. I just dropped it and didn't know what to do.
i thought it was sacrilegious for a non muslim to TOUCH the book, much less USE it...
I have a confession to make....I bought a Koran from Amazon, desecrated it and returned it. Hey, Azza! You got my Koran!
I dunno, when you idolize a book, it can be very sacred. Think of the golden calf, this is the same thing.
Of course it's all ridiculous and self-contradictory.. But we can 'share their islamic pain' as they now bitch and moan about this 'injustice'.
9/11 and bus bombings and any number of attacks on infidels are of course, by definition, not injustice (according to islam)
I think I might be getting a desecrated Bible from Amazon any day now. I'm going to be soooo offended!
I guess she was frozen in fear from May 5th till today.
Back in 1978, I found a Gideon's bible in my hotel room that was descecrated and have been traumatized ever since. Should I file a lawsuit for all my pain and suffering?
This looks like another finger in the chili.
Does it seem to anybody else that these people always over react and are always demanding apoologies?
Wow! The liberal agenda has even reached the Muslims!
here come the lying nuts
Islam is a death cult!
C'mon, who'll be the enterprising FReeper to offer a desecrated Koran on eBay. Take a few photos of the green book at home next to fecal matter. :)
