Animal rights activists a top law enforcement priority: FBI

Extremist animal rights groups like the Earth Liberation Front and the Animal Liberation Front pose a serious domestic terror risk and are a top law enforcement priority, a senior FBI official said.

At a hearing of the US Senate's Committee on Environment and Public Works US a senior US lawman said the threat posed by eco-terrorists is serious and widely underestimated.

"Extremists have used arson, bombings, theft, animal releases, vandalism and office takeovers to achieve their goals," said John Lewis, Deputy Assistant Director of the FBI's counterterrorism division.

Lewis said that between 1990 and 2004 animal and environmental extremists committed some "1,200 criminal incidents, resulting in millions of dollars in damage and monetary loss."

"Investigating and preventing animal rights extremism and eco-terrorism is one of the FBI's highest domestic priorities," Lewis told the panel, adding that the bureau is committed "to bring to justice those who commit crime in the name of animal or environmental rights."

As opposed to going after right-wing Christian "extremists" as the Klintoon administration did.....

Why did it take so long?

Good question. I hope the answer is "getting the ducks in a row....."

Really? Well, it doesn't suprise me, as they are also protecting the few cowards who deserted their units.....

If I had a business that involved animals, I'd post signs every ten feet warning, "Trespassers will be SHOT. Any questions?"

The point is that until these hippie-leftovers get any fear of mortal danger in what they do, they're gonna keep on committing crimes.

LOL! I also like the sign: "anyone found lurking here at night will be found here in the morning"

Doesn't give me a good feeling that the FBI says that these groups are at the top of their list. If it takes them as long as it has to arrest and convict these terrorists think how much loooonnnggger it will take them to catch international terrorists who enter this country.
