It's the sort of Army joke that would be expected to earn a severe rebuke from commanding officers.
But what began as an amateurish spoof could earn a fortune for charity and become the smash hit of the summer.
A group of soliders who jokingly filmed a version of the hit song (Is This The Way to) Amarillo? were coping with sudden stardom.
And rather than being punished for acting like pop star instead of privates, the Ministry of Defense has said they will not be diciplined.
Deptartment of Defense offered it to Comic Relief, which could use it to donate thousands of pounds to charity. The shakily filmed video ended up bringing the Ministry of Defenses computer system to its knees, crashing the server.
The track shows soldiers marching through the base, waving guns, parading bandages, and even sitting on portable lavatories.
Far from being angry, the military has congratulated Sgt. Parr for his morale boosting initiative. 'It's a bit of morle boosting fun and shows that the Forces are able to keep their chin up,' said a spokseman.
The unit is now back in Germany, having returned from a six mount tour of duty in Iraq.

According to Wikipedia:
"(Is This the Way to) Amarillo" is a song written by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield, referring to Amarillo, Texas. It is about a man travelling to Amarillo to find his fiancée. The reason that Amarillo was chosen for the song was because it was the only place name that Sedaka could think of that rhymed with "willow" and "pillow".
Athough written by two Americans, the song became famous in the United Kingdom, and remains generally unknown in the United States.
The song was recorded by Tony Christie and released in the UK in November 1971 where it reached 18 in the UK Singles Chart. However, it was a substantially bigger hit at that time across Continental Europe, notably in Germany where it made number one. In the United States a version by Neil Sedaka made number 44 in the Billboard charts in 1977.
