SYRACUSE NY--The Boy Scouts of America will have to find another place to hold an annual Merit Badge Day. Syracuse University has decided not to allow the scouts to hold the event on campus.
The school says the Boy Scout's ban on openly gay leaders is against the school's non-discriminatory practices. The youth organization believes they're being targeted.
"Syracuse University is the recipient of millions of tax dollars and those tax dollars are from all kinds of people, from all kinds of sexual orientations and religious beliefs. If you take taxpayers money you have an obligation to serve all the people," said Ray Sander, Onondaga Seaway Council.
The Boy Scouts are now looking for another location to hold the event.
serrve everyone but the scouts that is
Syracuse now?!?
Ouch!
Oh well, at least it's an openly secular University....oh no, wait.....they pretend to have religion........
sad.....
It sounds to me like Syracuse U supports pedophilia.
I hope all Syracuse alum with a scouting background withhold their financial support.

I don't know about that, but it is pretty odd than a self-professed Christian (Catholic) school would ban an established Christian organization from their campus.
Openly gay...okay
Openly Christian.....not welcome
Scratch Syracuse off my list...
I am unimpressed. If the rules prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation, and the Boyu Scouts so discriminate, then what is the problem? Follow the rules or go somewhere else. Welcome to the market!
There is another thread up right now about a theater owner who is refusing to show the latest Jane Fonda movie for reasons of political conscience. This is really just the same thing. Don't like it? Endow your own university.
Syracuse University IS NOT A CATHOLIC SCHOOL. It was founded by Methodist Episcopal folks. Never, ever Catholic.
Syracuse has never been a Catholic school. I believe it originated as Methodist-affiliated.
Methodist, not Catholic.
Guess I wasn't speedy enough ;)
Well, we all got it right and did not see each other's answers!!
Well obviously not.

Private vs public, discrimination works both ways. I bet they allow plenty-O-discrimination from Muslims, feminists with anti male rhetoric etc. Thus I am am unimpressed.
I went to Boy Scout camp with my son a few years back. Adults were strictly forbidden from being the only adult in camp with scouts. If you were the only adult there, you had to leave. The last thing the Scouts want is a pedophilia scandal. It's okay for Michael Jackson, but not the Scouts.
I was a Scout leader for my son one year when no one else would/could step up. The VERY first rule we had to learn was that you are never, ever alone with a child - always two leaders -
XsHub won't like this much.......

This is why Liberalism will ultimately fall under the weight of its own folly. Sooner or later enough people will stop for just a second and think, "Wait a minute, if Syracuse has a non-discriminatory practice policy, how can they discriminate against The Boy Scouts?"
