SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. One year after the issuance of same-sex marriage licenses in Massachusetts, Americans continue to affirm marriage as a union between one man and one woman, despite a dubious ruling by the states radical court.
Polls have shown that the more Americans learn about same-sex marriage or are having it forced upon them by judicial activists, the less they like it. A recent Gallup/CNN/USA Today poll showed that 68 percent of Americans oppose same-sex marriage the highest level in four years. Three out of five respondents said they would support a federal marriage amendment. (Source: Opposition to Same-Sex Marriage Mounts, United Press International, April 1, 2005).
While advocates of homosexual behavior and their allies will try to spin this event by saying that same-sex marriage is inevitable and that public opinion is moving in their direction, the exact opposite is true, said Glen Lavy, senior vice president of the Alliance Defense Funds Marriage Litigation Center. Whenever the question of marriage is put before the American people, the people answer resoundingly. In the last year, all fourteen states that have voted on marriage have passed constitutional amendments overwhelmingly. The message could not be any clearer the people know that marriage is a union between one man and one woman.
Despite the will of the people, affirmed through the ballot box and in recent opinion polls, marriage still faces grave threats. Radical activists have mounted challenges to marriage across the nation. Outrageous recent court decisions, coupled with last years slim majority decision by judges in Massachusetts, are a reminder that anti-marriage extremists will steamroll the public using the most anti-democratic tactics.
The activists know they cant win through the democratic process, and with ADF standing firm for the people, their court battles have become increasingly difficult, said Lavy. However, the rulings handed down recently in California and Nebraska prove that some judges are fully receptive to the outlandish arguments of those who would redefine marriage. This points to one solution a federal marriage amendment to allow the people settle the issue once and for all.

+ + + SPECIAL GRASSFIRE ALERT + + + + + + + + + + + +
Grassfire President Steve Elliott
+ + +Senate Reception Thursday
20,000 Petitions Needed In 48 Hours.
On Thursday, Grassfire will be taking part in a high-level
briefing in the U.S. Capitol on the marriage crisis with
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and other senators.
As you know, a federal judge just ruled that Nebraska's
marriage amendment is unconstitutional. This continues
the incredible legal assault we are seeing from the
Courts on marriage. No state amendment or law is
secure -- even deep in the Heartland of America.
Clearly -- only an amendment to the U.S. Constitution can
defend marriage from the onslaught of the courts.
+ + Send a Message to U.S. Senate on Thursday!
At last count, a total of ten United States Senators will
be joining Senator Frist for this special briefing hosted
by our partners at Alliance For Marriage (AFM). This is
a powerful tribute to the influence of the Alliance for
Marriage in the heart of the U.S. Capitol. Ron De Jong
(Grassfire's Director of Communictions) and I will be in
attendance representing the Grassfire team.
We want to deliver a strong grassroots message to these
Senators that citizens are outraged and are calling for
