Just returned from the protest and after-protest hash and rehash. Attending: Doctor Raoul, firebrand, TFine80, davide, and Don (not a freeper). We stood outside the Broadway entrance from 4:45 to about 6:30, holding our signs and shouting our heads off: "Don't buy Newsweek," "Newsweek Lied, People Died," "Flush Newsweek," "Newsweek Lies to America," etc. The signs said pretty much the same, along with "There Are Lies, Damn Lies, and Homicidal 'Reporting,'" "Former Newsweek Reporter Will Lie for Food," and TFine80's sign, which said something like "And you wonder why they hate us!" Many people stopped to chat. There were the usual Manhattan liberals (one of them was ready to sue davide for false advertising or something because she wasn't really a former Newsweek reporter), but a surprising number of positive responses. A Marine stopped by to find out more about it, and confirmed that rumors quickly go out of control in the Middle East, as this one did. Doctor Raoul had called Fox News and the New York Post, and a photographer from Polaris Images took quite a few good shots of our signs and us. He had come by just to get a picture of the Newsweek marquee and hadn't expected to see protesters there. If this story continues, there may be other protests, so stay tuned. BIG, BIG thank-you to all who went out of their way to attend on such short notice, and to StarFan for putting up the excellent announcement thread.
Good job guys. Sounds like I missed all the fun!

Another noted that "Comedy Central" also had offices in the same building.
Another worked for Newsweek and blamed only the editor who allowed the story to be published based on just one anonymous source.

Oh fer cryin' out loud...
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
I'm bored,I needed to attack somebody! If I didn't live on the other side of the country I would be joining this group.
No better target than Isikoff and his lurid tale of Quran Abuse!
Good for all of you! Keep the pressure on them--
Good job guys.
Thanks for the ping, nutmeg.
Great freep, Tri-State Chapter! It's tough to do such quick-time protests. Kudos to all that were able to make it today.
The truth is tough to take -- NEWSWEEK LIED, PEOPLE DIED!
Hey, thanks for finding that!!
I had a feeling that Newsweek had a cover title like that at one point and now I see that that was the title of Fareed Zakaria's big piece after 911 word for word.
I noticed that some of the Newsweek people were really cringing when they saw the sign and I think that's why.
I'm an Aussie, I know nothing about Newsweek other than what I have been reading on the various threads in relation to the koran story. I think you have been hoodwinked. The koran/toilet story is a re-hash. Imran Khan who has major political ambitions simply found it useful. The fact that the owner/editor of Newsweek is Jewish suited his agenda. (There were no objections raised when the story was printed in the Washington Post.)
http://laotze.blogspot.com/ follows the story from the beginning. FReepers, I hate to tell you this, but it looks like you are being good little dhimmies!
Thanks for the link.
I completely understand the frustration at the MSM and agree that much is anti-american, but this incident is being used now by some very dangerous elements over here who now think they can manipulate both US foreign policy and US domestic policy - it seems to be working.
Dr. Condoleeza Rice's comments should have been an indication of just how effective their strategy is now working.
LOL!!!
I just heard on nightline this idiot say they (newsweek) didn't think there would be roits.
I think Rice goofed big time, silence would have been preferable IMO. Whenever the fanatics set up a riot the aim is always to destabilize the government, Imran Khan has been my number one suspect for years. 'World Famous Cricketer Instrumental in Riots Causing Muslim Deaths' is the only headline I want to see.
Sadly, now I anticipate riots in Indonesia, I think this will spread further and further. (The 'rioters' signs were ready in advance, and so professional, did you notice? LOL!)
Over here? The link he provided is from the Washington Post. Color me very confused.
