You know, sometimes you will find some really good journalism in that rag.

I completely agree.

Guess the NoZe Bros will be next....
http://www.thenoze.org/news.htm

...Satchelizmo!!!!

Bridge Burning, my a--. They blew the dang thing up!!!
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR KIND treatment of such a reverent institution in your article about the NoZe Brotherhood. Some believe NoZe brothers should be institutionalized, but I firmly believe the brothers represent an esteemed and valued institution. While I was attending Baylor (1971-1975), NoZe performed numerous charitable activities including:

• Photographing students at "Bear Downs" for a small cash donation. Never mind that the photographs were all the same picture of a donkey's backside with the donor's face in a strategic location.
• Raising the bar on Homecoming floats ... NoZe never won the float competition, but did create a benchmark for all others to follow.
• Providing newly entering Baylor women with a free ride to the Quad on a swanky fire engine borrowed from down the street ™ plus many, many more generous and charitable acts of giving.

Answering charity with charity, a professor in the journalism department was kind enough to "loan" the journalism facilities (including copier) to NoZe for The Rope for a couple of years (1974-75) until the buzz about the source became too intense and tenure was endangered.
- Michael McCann, BBA '75, (aka Bro. Froze NoZe), Dublin, Ohio

SATCH ON THE ARTICLE. A FEW THINGS about the bridge burning. The bridge was unsafe and had missing boards and no lighting. The administration would not do anything about it. When the fire department showed up, some NoZe were there roasting hot dogs! The NoZe were blamed for everything. One time, somebody (?) painted the fire hydrants pink and blue (pink on top). Naturally, the NoZe were blamed, and Abner [McCall] demanded they repaint them. Like the good students they were, they complied (blue on top). It is a little-known, unconfirmed fact that the NoZe is an outreach missionary program to the infidels and hairy legs from First Church, Elm Mott.

True. But they have had more than their fair share of bogus writings.

HERE IS A BETTER RAG....THAT SHOULD NEVER BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY.
(Kinda works with the college writing)
Baylor Bears will know this one...

http://www.thenoze.org/news.htm
From April 2005 issue--

ìThis is an outrage!î cried Waco junior Karen Petree, the current president of Baylor Democrats. ìAs an independent-minded student at
Baylor, I find it a greater struggle to go against the masses at Baylor than to just call myself a regular Baylor conservative. I can retain my conservative
values and my independent mind while still being accepted for the political bipartison... [This quote has been edited based on its length and inconsequential
nature.] When asked what the quote had to do with the situation at hand, Petree rambled off another political tangent.--

However, it was better written back in the 80s and 90s.
Best article they ever spoofed was..."A Little Baylor Romance"

The prof was an idiot.

The prof was adjunct. Well, that's usually a yearly contract issue....so they deal with updating that every year.

Schools are usually looking to only have an adjunct for as short of a time as possible. They want tenured tracks and Ph.Ds so they can look competitive against other schools.

The prof knew this.....but risks the dang blong anyway.

THEN THERE IS THE ISSUE OF WRITING WHAT STUDENT TOLD HER IN CONFIDENCE.

Names changed or not...Schools have rules about that for a reason!

She just made SMU liable for the legal crap.

Much of what is written in the Observer is from a lib's perspective; it is fun to view the musings of those that always see a glass half-empty.

Since the Dallas Times Herrald is no longer around to challenge the Bible of the Southwest (aka Dallas Morning News), the Observer is always biting at the DMN's ankles. Seems like the Observer's sole purpose is to sling the mud onto the DMN, D Magazine, and anyone that's monied w/ a "R" after their name.

Sometimes the writing forces good action/change (recent Observer article on private dorms at University of Texas @ Dallas - the writing however need a major dose of editing - i was pretty choppy. The article talked about an alleged rapist living at the dorm and residents not being informed; also about the poor maintainence of the facilities.

Dallas' current mayor (Laura Miller) was once a reporter for the Observer. It is neat to see how current Observer journalists treat her in the weekly.

I digressed... sorry 'bout that.

Yeah, that's what I was saying about the prof teaching ethics.
But all I could say was "holy cow".

Thanks for the bugmenot referral!

As for the prof's blog ... wow, it sounds like things haven't changed a lick since I went to TCU 20 years ago. Back then we had a saying: To go to TCU, you had to be either rich OR smart -- not both.

I love this by the Phantom Prof:

My favorite bit of feedback came from the student who accused me of "discrimination" against the wealthy. She didn't appreciate my attitude toward thin, beautiful young Ashleys. This writer equated it with racism.

Come to think of it, I guess the rich have been unfairly segregated by society. All their lives they've been forced to ride at the front of the bus. They live in gated communities designed to restrict their freedom of movement. Their clothes are tagged with identifying logos -- little Polo players and crocodiles -- that tell the rest of us who and what they are. Their children attend separate schools (and wear uniforms!). Where is Amnesty International? Why isn't the UN working to liberate these rich people and let them mix freely with the rest of us?

The rich may be an oppressed minority, but given the current White House administration's compassion for the over-privileged, I'm sure there's someone in Washington willing to take up their cause. Maybe they could organize a Million Billionaire March that begins at the Dallas Country Club and ends in the parking lot at Neiman Marcus.
