Woodward Calls Cheney a 'Serious' Dark Horse for 2008 Run for White House

NEW YORK A trial balloon for a Cheney for President run in 2008 is being launched by a surprising source, Washington Post star reporter (and White House insider) Bob Woodward.

Some critics claim that Dick Cheney has already been president for five years, so why should he go to the trouble of seeking the office (again) in 2008? But Woodward, appearing on Chris Matthews' NBC talk show on Sunday, labeled Vice President Cheney “a serious dark horse candidate.” He said that with "a number of people" going for the GOP nomination, “a guy named George Bush might come out and say ‘What about Dick?’"

Woodward observed that "there's a serious vacuum right now," with Senators Frist, Brownback, and Allen leading the field, some say.

There may be a precedent for this. Cheney worked behind the scenes to gain the VP nod in 2000 -- put in charge of finding a suitable candidate he ended up suggesting himself.

I have been a Cheney fan also.
He shows great maturity, and commonsense, and he is a nonsense kind of person, what you see is what you get.
We can thank the Good Lord that we got him and Bush for the last 4 years.

Sounds like a good team to me.
Didn't Lynn Cheney serve in the Government at some level before ?
I know Lynn Cheney can hold her own against Hitlery in a debate, but, Lynn would be a good running mate for George Allen in 2008, or Condi Rice.

Cheney absolutely BURIED Edwards in the so-called debates.

Cheney knew his stuff and had the backbone to take that man down. Edwards died of dozens of slices and a few massive cuts. It was a typical Cheney performance. Say what you wil, but Cheney IS a genius.....as well as a political genius.

I would support Cheney in a heartbeat. Whoever came against him in any debates would be destroyed -- including the Hildebeest.

I can see some good qualities in George Allen, leadership qualities.
George Allen has qualities ( that the left/liberals/democrats seem to be clueless to pick up on......... opps ? I forgot... the left/liberals/democrats don't have and redeeming qualities and values.
George Allen has qualities that resonate with the American people, I can see humbleness, decency, honest, character, straight talker but articulant.
But, we know how superficial and nitpicky the left can be, they make a mountain out of a mole hill, and will say, " now , now ? we can have to Georgies in row, that disqualifies him from running as President in 2008 ".
That kind of line would be some typical from the Liberals/Democrats, but, I would not put it passed them is they were to say that.

I would love to see John Bolton, and all of Bushes judges nominated, and Bush have a very conservative Supreme court judge(s) go to the bench to see the liberals really lose it, that would be priceless to see.

"George Allen, Prez.....and Condi Rice, Veep"

That doesn't sound too bad. The negatives for both get blended out a bit.

He said quite some time ago that he would not be a candidate. Also, remember his health. He has had too much trouble with his heart. I don't think it would be a good idea for him to run. More is the pity.

I support Cheney 2008!!! As for heart problems---LBJ had a MAJOR heart attack in 1955 or 1956 and came back to run for President. And remember, medical technology is MUCH BETTER than it was then.

CHENEY 2008!!! No one is MORE QUALIFIED!!!

I did not say he would not be a great president, PJ. I just remember the interview that he gave and I took him at his word.

I think he would be a solid president. George Allen would be a good VP, or Condi Rice. George is a bit young and untried for president, IMHO.

Clinton was a bit young and untried, also, LOL.

Well, I take that back. As Arkansas governor he was tried....but was found wanting.
