How a Fire Broke Out (NEWSWEEK source is now unsure)
Newsweek ^ | 05/15/05 | Evan Thomas

May 23 issue - By the end of the week, the rioting had spread from Afghanistan throughout much of the Muslim world, from Gaza to Indonesia. Mobs shouting "Protect our Holy Book!" burned down government buildings and ransacked the offices of relief organizations in several Afghan provinces. The violence cost at least 15 lives, injured scores of people and sent a shudder through Washington, where officials worried about the stability of moderate regimes in the region.

The spark was apparently lit at a press conference held on Friday, May 6, by Imran Khan, a Pakistani cricket legend and strident critic of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf. Brandishing a copy of that week's NEWSWEEK (dated May 9), Khan read a report that U.S. interrogators at Guantánamo prison had placed the Qur'an on toilet seats and even flushed one. "This is what the U.S. is doing," exclaimed Khan, "desecrating the Qur'an." His remarks, as well as the outraged comments of Muslim clerics and Pakistani government of-ficials, were picked up on local radio and played throughout neighboring Afghani-stan. Radical Islamic foes of the U.S.-friendly regime of Hamid Karzai quickly exploited local discontent with a poor economy and the continued presence of U.S. forces, and riots began breaking out last week.

Isikofi should be thrown in the cooler till he divulges the name of the "senior government official" who was his original source.

Then, when identified, the "senior government official" should be thrown in the hoosegow till he divulges where he "read" the toilet incident report.

Then, Newsweak's editors should be thrown in the in the slammer till they divulge how much they contribute to leftist Democrats every election.

This is a sickening and horrendous foul-up on the part of this rag. I hope we'll see some form of retribution. One way is for everyone to stop sending subscription dollars to Newsweak. It's madness to subscribe to any one of the mainstream socialist, communist media. You are feeding the hand that bites you.

These false and misleading stories are not rare events.

The MSM's socialist goals are so well entrenched that it needs no command system to guide it. It's a perfect 'perpetual-motion' device designed to convert a capitalist republic into a socialist democracy by 24/7 socio-political indoctrination.

snip

In the meantime, as part of his ongoing reporting on the detainee-abuse story, Isikoff had contacted a New York defense lawyer, Marc Falkoff, who is representing 13 Yemeni detainees at Guantánamo. According to Falkoff's declassified notes, a mass-suicide attempt—when 23 detainees tried to hang or strangle themselves in August 2003—was triggered by a guard's dropping a Qur'an and stomping on it. One of Falkoff's clients told him, "Another detainee tried to kill himself after the guard took his Qur'an and threw it in the toilet." A U.S. military spokesman, Army Col. Brad Blackner, dismissed the claims as unbelievable. "If you read the Al Qaeda training manual, they are trained to make allegations against the infidels," he said.

IMO, Isikoff and Falkoff are card carrying members of the enemy domestic. Koff with their heads.

They are rioting and killing on a brief statement that their 'holy book' may have been mistreated - even possibly by the owners of that book.

Libs/dims had no problem with elephant dung on a portrait of the Virgin Mary - that was "art".

Just the barest hint again of Islamic double standards?

Only DOUBLE? These guys have as many standards as suits their purpose, no more, no less.

Just like this Koran thing. Islam supposedly abjures "idols", yet here they are venerating a book! They aren't fooling anybody. They are insane and we all know it.

Islam is not so much a religion but a system of mental and emotional abuse and manipulation designed to turn human beings into animals.

Isikoff has blood on his hands. Evan Thomas and the fellow travellers at the Washington Post will supply the soap and handtowells, but there is no escaping the stain.

The saddest part of this John, is the fact that many here do not consider the Democrat Party and their enablers the enemy.

How many posts have you read where you see ... "when are the Democrats going to wake up", or " don't they realize how stupid they sound". As if the Democrats, etal, are simply poor misled stooges and doing this by pure accident, or by lack of deliberate thought.

That, in it self, is bad enough, but to have the Congress, who is privy to more information about the internal anti-America design to destroy Her than you or I, and yet remain silent, means to me that they are part and parcel of this process.

How's that for an eternal optimist, who has become a doubting Thomas?

"...This is a sickening and horrendous foul-up on the part of this rag.

Not at all.

A foul-up is something done by mistake. Therefore to be considered a foul-up, one would have to assume this was not done intentionally, but in error.

Oh boo hoo. The perpetually offended Muslims are rioting. So what else is new? In countries where Judaism and Christianity are regularly debased, people are offended. Cry me a river...

Why dispose of the Koran in a private bathroom? There are ways to share the destruction of the Unholy Book with your friends and neighbors. It's way more fun!
