Should America Build A Holocaust Memorial for the 100 Million Victims of Communism?

Some conservatives were angered by President Bush's decision to attend the military parade in Russia, where the Red Army was honored for its role in World War Two sixty years ago. The Red Army has a record of bloodshed that exceeds even that of the Nazi SS units.
The leaders of Lithuania and Estonia acted on principle, and decided to boycott the military parade in Russia honoring the Red Army, with communist hammer and sickle flags in full display. While we remember the victims of Nazism, we should not forget the tyranny that the Baltics and the rest of Eastern Europe was subjected to for over 40 years.
Communism killed 100 million people in the 20th Century, double the number who died in World War Two. America should build a memorial to victims of the Communist genocides in Ukraine, China, Cambodia, Russia, Vietnam, etc.

Alternatively, the Holocaust Memorial in DC should be expanded, to include victims of communism. Currently, the exclusion of victims of Stalinism and Maoism from the DC Museum, reduces the Museum to a monument to political correctness.

Actually, the Russians should, but I doubt that would happen any time soon.
So I would answer yes to this question.

Who gives a crap? Eastern Europe didn't exactly cover itself in glory during WWII, remember? Mostly spent it's time running trains of Jews to the Germans. They got what they deserved. We should raise a statue to Stalin, he killed more commies than anyone else.

I don't know about this. My gut says, "No, let the countries from which the victims came build memorials." America makes no bones about our stance on Communism - we fought it for forty-five years.

I fully concur! Ask any US High School student about Stalin or Mao's body counts- and you will get a blank stare.

Yes, absolutely. The crimes of the Communist world do need to be remembered and preserved.

Do you have any idea how many Russians were killed in WWII? I'm not giving and support for communism but to deny them a day of recognition for a good deed seems disrespectful. Again look up the Russian dead in WWII. I think you will be surprised.

Agree. The emphasis on the Jewish extermination to the exclusion of what are arguably far, far greater mass killings/ethnic cleansing reflects the political power and media bias. It would appear that, for the most part, if you skin is not white or you are the victim of Communist atrocity the European/American world doesn't recognize your suffering.

As long as such a memorial is labeled correctly. I wouldn't want it at all if the message behind it got blurred into something that makes it look like those people died in a heatwave or something equally misleading.

I think we should, bu then again that would also entail several years of watching Madeleine Halfbright on televison. scolding us on how such an endeavor would further insult Vladimir Putin (sarcasm warning)...

Stalin, he killed more commies than anyone else. Living in the USSR didn't make you a "commie". Like any tyrant, Joe was afraid of anyone challenging his authority. Appear to be too strong of an up-and-coming party member? Off to Siberia. Exposed to foreign rule while under Nazi occupation? Off to Siberia. Protesting the famine? Off to Siberia. Didn't clap long enough during a standing ovation for Joe? Off to Siberia.

Only if it is built in the main hall way of the DNC, their current, modern day equivalent of pure communists, with the same ideals, goals, wants, wishes, aspirations and deeds.

I would support a memorial if only to bring this story to light. Too many people, worldwide, have no idea as to the astounding number of people massacred by leftist/socialist/communist tyranny. It's not a story that media liberals in our or any other country want told.
To: Xiaoding
Please check the numbers of Russian dead on the Eastern Front - they did indeed cover themselves in glory. What came afterward should in no way deny the sacrifices they made.
