Rarely have I seen so many half-truths combined with so many basic economic errors and combined into a single, convenient article.

Alkhin, I've added you to my personal P&V ping list.

Though since I am bashing a Wal-Mart basher, I'm not sure if it is truly P&V.

I'm surprised by how many national socialists frequent these boards.

And I'm not saying that they advocate the racial theories of national socialism, simply that they advocate a socialist system protected by economic nationalism.

Lenin's "sell them enough rope and capitalists will hang themselves" theory was incomplete. As China may have figured out, you have to sell them the rope on credit to really hang the little piggies high (or, at the very least, to keep the protectionist wolves at bay).

And the next time you purchase MADE IN CHINA products you might want to remember these pictures.
Warning! They are very graphic.

Simply put, what we are witnessing is the transfer of wealth from the U.S. to China transfer of inexpensive goods from China to the U.S. in return for money, which allows people in China to buy stuff.

Whenever trading partners trade, they both get richer. Otherwise it wouldn't be called "trade". The only exception to this rule is if one side is buying cocaine or irradiated sewage or something equally useless.

Yup, even old Sam himself copped out to the life insurance deal. It only works if your employee's kick off faster than the charts allow for.

"In 2004, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, we imported a whopping $197 billion worth of goods from China..."

"Wal-Mart, according to the Congressional Committee on Education and the Workforce, is China’s biggest street pusher, responsible for slinging up to one eighth of the Chinese goods sold in the United States...." (about $25 billion).

"Eighty percent of the more than 6,000 factories supplying Wal-Mart merchandise are located in China."

But Wal-Mart's annual sales last year were about $285 billion, with the cost of sales being about $220 billion.

That means that sales of Chinese goods amounted to about 11% of Wal-Mart's sales.

But the article says that "Eighty percent of the more than 6,000 factories supplying Wal-Mart merchandise are located in China."!!

Leaving the impression that far more than 11% of Wal-Mart's products come from China.

Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

Do a Google search on Michael I. Niman ... here are some quotes from a man who obviously has an ax to grind

There seems to be no bottom to the moral pit of depravity to which the band of criminals in the White House is determined to take our nation. Whenever I think we’ve hit bottom – we can’t sink any deeper into the abyss – the White House diabolists prove me naïve.

Here's an implied "Bush did it":
Anyone familiar with my work knows that I'm certainly not a conspiracy theorist. But to be honest, I know I wasn't alone in my initial reaction at this week's horrible and tragic news: that being my surprise that Wellstone had lived this long. Perhaps it's just my anger and frustration at losing one of the few reputable politicians in Washington, but I also felt shame. Shame for not writing in my column, months ago, that I felt that Paul Wellstone's life, more so than any other politician in Washington, was in danger. I felt that such speculation was unprofessional and would ultimately undermine my credibility. In the end, my own self-interest triumphed, and I never put my concerns into print. Neither did any other mainstream journalist, though I know of many who shared my concern.

"Forget Silkworm missiles. If China wanted to take down America, they could do it overnight with one massive dumping of U.S. currency. U.S dollars are only worth what people are willing to pay for them on the open market––known as a free floating currency."

Whoever wrote this is a moron. China dumps our currency causing the dollar to crash and in doing so cost themselves billions and billions of dollars in currency losses. Then with our currency worthless and the dollar cost of a $10.00 made in China toaster (pre crash) now costing $29.99 (post crash) what happens to their exports to their largest customer? Answer, they dry up.

We constantly here of the danger of other countries bailing out of our treasuries, currency and whatever else the "experts" can dream up to sensationalize a story. The fact is that we are the worlds largest consumer and biggest importer as our huge trade deficit shows. The simple reason these other countries don't bail on us is because they NEED us. The need us to be economically strong in order to buy their STUFF, they also need us to be militarily strong to pull their miserable asses out of the fire every 10-20 years. We cannot me strong militarily if we are not strong economically. China's will NOT dump our currency, Japan will NOT dump our Treasuries nor will any other nation. When things on planet earth get really hairy everyone knows which nation will be turned to by other nations for the safety and security of their currency.

Wal-Mart is also actively working to bring the anti-union Chinese labor model to the United States, often treating its American workforce as if they were in China.

That's not true. Wal-Mart's Chinese employees are unionized.

It's amusing to see you cast in your lot with a lunatic who believes that the RNC assassinated Senator Wellstone.

The more the left hates Wal-Mart the more I shop there. As for things made in China, so what! If I like the product then I'll buy the product. Chinese people are entitled to work. Imagine if I restricted myself to things made only in my state, or better yet, my town. How stupid is that?

Gee, doing unskilled labor at a discount retailer doesn't pay for crap, who knew? And I suppose it was WalMart who put all these stupid socialist welfare programs in back in the 60s so they could safely not pay crap too.

Get rid of the welfare programs then WalMart will have to pay better, and we can all pay less taxes so the sudden jump in prices at WalMart won't damage our wallets, it's a win-win scenario.
