Border Patrol told to stand down in Arizona
The Washington Times ^ | 13 May 2005 | Jerry Seper

Posted on 05/12/2005 10:05:40 PM PDT by Spiff

U.S. Border Patrol agents have been ordered not to arrest illegal aliens along the section of the Arizona border where protesters patrolled last month because an increase in apprehensions there would prove the effectiveness of Minuteman volunteers, The Washington Times has learned.

It isn't about handling the job alone. It's about proving that the normal number of arrests is in the hundreds, not in the tens of thousands.

However, we have newspaper accounts going back two full year wherein the BP have published their apprehension numbers for this sector...they arrest between 700 and 1300 per day on any given day.

For the month of April, less than a thousand were apprehended all month long.

I guess so! They don't realize I'm totally on their side, I guess.

These folks (BP/ICE) leadership have lost their moral authority and need to be transferred to the Canadian border.

What do you have against the Canadian border? Send them to Point Barrow to personally inspect all incoming shipping.

I almost said Guam, until I remembered that it isn't the Guam my father was sent to in the 1940s.

This is complete insanity!! As I stated in my thread a year ago (that FR decided to throw in the backroom) I voted for Bush in 2000 but I wouldn't vote for him again in 2004 unless he changed his position on illegal immigration. He didn't change his position, and I didn't vote for him either.... I was accused by some on here of being a DUer, but I'm not a DUer. I'm just a Republican who is damn tired of our president leaving our borders wide open to illegals, terrorists, and anybody else who wants to walk across them. Incidentally, I didn't vote for Kerry in 2004 either because I didn't think his policy on illegal immigration would be any better than Bush's.. But I don't know how it could be any worse.

I hope this "stand down" idiocy results in the crap really hitting the fan! Maybe then Bush will get the message.

This is treason, plain and simple.

If this is true:

Mr. Tancredo, chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus, blamed the Bush administration for setting an immigration enforcement tone that suggests to those enforcing the law that he is not serious about secure borders

someone should be indicted. This is by far more serious than a 'stained dress.'

If the Border patrol isn't going to do their job, why are the taxpayers funding them? Cut the program. It's a waste of money.

No idea. Apparently bayourod and a couple of others (ClintonBeGone) were banned, but I missed when, where, and why.

If you ever find out, tell me. I'm curious to know too.

The article's dated 5/13/05. My calendar says that's today.

I know. Here's the first post of the story, from Ben Anderson, on FR:

Tucson Border Patrol Chief Orders Illegal Border Crossing Coverup posted by B4Ranch on 5/01/2005.

Tucson Border Sector Chief Michael Nicely has ordered the Border Patrol to ensure that Illegal Alien apprehensions are kept to an absolute minimum so as to disprove the impact of the recent month-long Minuteman Project.

I was wrong, it was almost two weeks ago that I indexed and pinged this story.

Really? I tried to access his about page a week or two ago, and was greeted with a message that said the account was gone.

Like I said, I missed the thread this all took place on.
