I just watched Ohio Senator Voinovich speak on the John Bolton nomination as US ambassador to the United Nations. I have never been so outraged by the actions of a fellow Republican in my life. After spending a good deal of time sliming Mr. Bolton, Voinovich had the nerve to say that he likes John Bolton, but that he wants the Committee to send Mr. Bolton to the Senate without a recommendation.
This does not kill the nomination, but is an outrage that a few short months after we Republicans spent our money and effort to re-elect Senator Voinovich he should stab us in the back by joining the absurd and hate-filled Democratic effort to defeat John Bolton as US ambassador to the United Nations. There is still a lot of hope that we can get Mr. Bolton through the Committee and the full Senate; one has to believe that a majority of Senators are smart enough to see through this sick political grandstanding...but I've a long memory, and I shan't forget. In 2010, I'll remember who stood where in the past.
The real problem? He's highly effective and competent (as demonstrated for instance in his management of the "Proliferation Security Initiative," one of the most effective multilateral initiatives of the Bush administration). It's that simple. It's the same reason the Rats are blocking several of the Judicial nominees, particularly Janice Rogers Brown. She's too damn smart.
I know this seems odd. A Republican Congress would focus on blocking the worst nominees of a Democrat President, but on this point as many black is white and up is down in Rat land.
I'm not trying to dissuade you from anything. We all have our own conscience and I am happy that you are following yours. However, we also all have our limits and I have reached mine. We own the White House, Senate and House and can't get the President's nominees confirmed. This has proved to me that my support was in vain.
Voinovich has always been like this. He gets away with it because the Ohio Republican Party is full of people like him, and the Democrats run people from the far, far left against him.
No
We do not own them. We are fighting for them every 2 and 4 years. There is not yet a conservative majority.
"The real problem,he's highly effective and competent."Good point.Guess that's why Dems are so shook up.The idea of having someone at the UN who is actually competent is anathema to Dems and career bureaucrats.
Voinovich has always struck me as a sort of a creep, but less creepy than some on the other side of the aisle. As of today, he's left-hand material. I also think he's either dirty or monomaniacal (or maybe a bit from either column); after reading his comments, I do not for a minute believe that this a conscience thing with him. IMHO, he's delivering... but for whom?
Good point. Frist will be the minority leader after 2006. And we will be lucky to hold on to the House where the Republicans have some courage.
Voinovich is just trying to save face after his pathetic performance in the committee hearing a couple of weeks a good.
Oh my goodness, it is worse than I thought. Thanks for letting me know.
We have got to vote these traitors out of office!!! You are so RIGHT!
Close. Voinovich = Pansy - (an) + (us)
In case anyone has anything to say to Voinovich, here is his DC office Number: (202) 224-3353.
ooooh not the "Two Party cartel" and the "elites" aaaaaah God help us. Give us the Party of the Demented or the Party of the Screws Loose or we are doooomed, doooomed I say.
Who are these "elites" Bildeburgers, CFRs, Skull and Bones, Crippled Newsies of America, or the INternational Order of Racoons?
Senator Voinovich may be contacted at (202) 224-3353, or you may e mail him at the US Senate website
We must demand that those who take the good name of Republican and then take our money and sweat-equity to further their political careers at least don't cut our legs off like Voinovich has done...we GOPers deserved the simple courtesy of Voinovich broadcasting in advance what he was going to do so that we could adjust and make plans...we're not looking for lock-step followers, but we need to know where everyone stands and not get caught short like we have twice by Voinovich on the Bolton issue...
Amen.
Voinovich= FRENCH
You know what--Voinivich isn't "delivering" anything to anyone--he just hates Bolton and thinks he's a creep and isn't going to vote for him. Period.
Trash him for THAT, OK! But it really is outrageous to say he's been "bought."
