the foreign fighters near the Syrian border proved to be everything their reputation had suggested: fierce, determined and lethal to the last.

well, since the foreign fighters are all dead, I guess the MARINES proved everything THEIR REPUTATION

"FWIW, a lit cigarette butt will NOT ignite gasoline."

True, but a grenade or two sure would. Maybe a simple ol road flare....

I basically agree with you but if the Turks had let the 4thID invade through their territory from the north a lot less Baathists would have lived to become insugrents.

Wow. God bless our troops and their families. Please read the whole account.

I'm not getting all whimpy about this, but there are tens of thousands ready to die for their imaginary god, that gives them forever sex with 72 forever virgins, in that 300 mile radius alone.

Enough of this close combat for our precious loved ones. MOAB or let the locals go in under our observation, support, logistics, GPS, missle strike support, hardware, intel, whatever. It's their fight now, their country now.

This is a slo-mo Iwo Jima, another possible mistake that costed needless lives, in my opinion, after some research (fence it off and let them die or wait until the technology is in place to wipe out at low risk... nuke, chem, bio, whatever... it's war)

Ugly American? You betcha! The bitchin' stops when all the bitches are dead... and all records of every one of them ever existing.

Ever wonder why history has so many holes about entire cultures and races that seemed to have been wiped out?

Don't like that, do ya... grow up... this is a war. Our Wal-Mart shopping, gas-price-hating, low-fat eating, limp wristed whining, males that happen to have the mechanics to be men (but aren't)... are just scared little boys wanting a hug from mommy. Yes, it's harsh... tough being in this protected, plastic world... without bullets flying up through the concrete floors at you.

I want a change in policy sooner than the political inertia dictates. I have said so to my reps... I say so here. Leave nothing behind but what might have been bodies. Move on to the next target.

Flame away, pussies, you know you want to... you dropped your pink hankie back there, by the way. You looked, didn't you!

Thanks for the detailed reply. As many have said, it's better to take the fight to them in the Middle East than to have them take the fight to us in the USA.

I agree 100%. Frigen Turks! Guess one can only whip so much into such short lived forum discusions. Just tried to make a few key points. Thanks for the remarks. Your right on.

Screaming "Allahu Akbar'' to the end, the foreign fighters lay on their backs in a narrow crawl space under a house and blasted their machine guns up through the concrete floor with bullets designed to penetrate tanks.

Interesting how many, including myself, are reminded of the flamethrower.

Anyone know when and why the US military stopped using it? Was it Harry Truman or some kind of UN treaty BS?

Your quite welcome. I believe I gave an honest, somewhat accurate short answer. Many a L/MSM and demo are still scratching their heads as to what the POTUS meant when he initially brought this concept out. Let the angry young Syrians, Jordanians, Saudis, Yemensites, Omanites,Ossama bohoma travestites run to Iraq and be killed so that they don't board airplanes and attempt to run them into our buildings, oil refineries, nuclear plants, shopping malls, God forbid one of our Wall Marts where taken out and could not peddle cheap Chicom junk.
At any rate, I am sure you can expand much into answering your own questions given a little time. I do not pretend to have all the answers, and probably are quite off the mark at times. But I don't think I am completely wrong in what I had to say. I am sure in the future there will become available some accurately written books on OIF I and II by military folks that where a part of it.

"In Haqlaniyah, Zarqawi felt bold enough to preach a sermon at a mosque, according to at least one report to U.S. forces."

Isn't it a real riot. A high school drop out that took over by mind control by a Jordanian Wahabist cleric, now can preach in mosques while his thugs blow up innocent bretheren. These people are worse then nuts, they are what is known as assholes.

Doesnt work. I've tried it many times.
You need open flame or ignition spark.

I can't quite see where the bullsh*t ends and the supposed story begins.

Marines do NOT attack in human waves. - nutty islamics do.
There is NO small arms ammunition made to penetrate tank armor.

Simple fatal resistance from fighters who had put themselves into a position where they were wiped out to the last man.

Real smart.

It's pretty apparent the Wash Post is mighty proud of the "insurgents"

While a lit cigarette butt might not ignite spilled gasoline I guarentee that a "willy peter" grenade will 8*)

I did see it ignited once - the gasoline was poured on hot (from the summer sun) stone - and one could actually see the vapors, like a mirage, forming a sort of a "liquid" layer above the gasoline. That thing ("rich" vapors/air mix) nicely caught fire from a cigarette (and the guy managed to get away with 3rd degree burns). Maybe under more normal conditions one needs a light gasoline of increased volatility, like [at the limit] the stuff they put in engine starting fluid.

So, we killed them.
