Time to act on issue of judges, Frist says

THE WASHINGTON TIMES

The Senate will take up President Bush's filibustered judicial nominations next week, and Republican staffers say the ensuing debate will ultimately end with a showdown -- perhaps even the use of the so-called "nuclear option" -- if one side doesn't back down. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, Tennessee Republican, has threatened to end the impasse over seven judges with the rare parliamentary procedure that would prohibit filibusters against judicial nominees. And earlier this year, he told The Washington Times he had the 51 votes to do so. But yesterday marked the first time he has offered any timeline for using the maneuver. "It's time for us to move to the issue of judges," Mr. Frist said. "Each of these nominees deserve an up-or-down vote on the floor of the United States Senate. Confirm them or reject them, vote yes or no, but allow them the courtesy of a vote."

This guy Frist sure talks a lot. Just like Lott talked a lot.

Enough talk. Do. Or resign.

After Lott's trial balloon, which fell down like a lead zeppelin, I guess they got the message-- they realize that people do give a darn about this.

Bingo. On the list of priorities, getting Bush's long-stalled nominees on the bench ranks right at the top.

It appears fairly obvious that the Democrats, in conjunction with the RINO's are perfectly willing to lay waste to, any and all, of the present administrations nominations and proposed programs for the next four years.

How many times are we going to hear this before someone actually follows through.

One of my all time favorite quotes (from Yoda in the second Star Wars flick) sure applies here..

"Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try".

We should send the good Dr. Frist a 20 foot tall, 20 foot wide banner with Yoda's words of wisdom emblazoned with giant, red lettering on it.

ACT already! For the love of God!! What's it take for this guy to do something other than TALK? And talk..and talk..

I heard George Will last night on a rebroadcast of Hannity. I knew he was opposed to the "nuclear option". He thinks Republicans should preserve the option of the filibuster because some day the tables will be turned and they might want to filibuster Democrat nominees. I was itching for Hannity to ask if Wills really thought the Democrats would stand by and watch their nominees cool their heels for four years in the face of Republican filibusters, or would they simply choose the "nuclear option" when it suits them. Of course, he didn't ask that question. George Wills thinks the answer is to get 60 Republican senators. That might happen some day, but a lot of damage can be done by the Democrats between now and then. If Wills' advice is followed and by 2006 there are not 60 Republican senators, it will mean a stunning victory for Democrats to have so efficiently thwarted a Republican President and Congress. Just wait and see what they do with Supreme Court nominations.

Here's why Will is all wet. Either out of principle or out of spinelessness, the Republicans would simply never filibuster a judicial nominee. And even if they did, the Dems would have no qualms about going nuclear.

Dear Freepers:

I wanted to write and tell you how much I applaud your willingness to hold Senator Frist and the other Republicans' feet to the fire over their behavior in the Senate. Be it the Bolton nomination or the filibuster story, no sooner is a story on politics posted here than I note with glee the plentiful responses bashing every Republican and vowing to leave the GOP. I couldn't agree with you more, and applaud your principled determination to leave this party that you detest so much. I heartily recommend that you give all of the Senate Republicans up for dead and leave this despicable party to the ash heap of history.

Sincerely yours,

Edward M. Kennedy

I agree that it is time to fish or cut bait as to blowing up the judicial nominees. I do see the spectres of McCain, Collins, Chafee, Collins, Snow, Specter, Voinovich, Hagel and possibly others lurking about. It is at least possible that Frist is making sure he has the votes to carry the Rule interpretation. Failure would be disastrous.

After becoming very concerned on Monday with the non-story story coming out regarding Trent Lott and all that fuss, I've settled into an excruciating "have patience" attitude. I understand the pubbies want the pork barrel transportation bill sent through before going nukular. I'm afraid we will have to go through weeks of futility before they give up on that. But in the end, I sense Frist WILL drop the bomb and it will deliver a blast that will clear the way for the confirmation of all of the presidents nominees. Sen. Specter will back it out of simple ego. His cmmt. will retain its traditional all important role in judge confirmations. The wait is agonizing though; easy to understand conservatives getting very nervous on this.
