Wow - that is a great read, Mike. I especially loved the following. Thanks for finding and posting it.

PRESIDENT SAAKASHVILI:
"President Bush is a man of vision who believes in the triumph of liberty over forces of tyranny. I know he was also inspired by our journey toward democracy. President Bush is in Georgia because we agree that free people cannot rest while tyranny exists. We know that our liberty must be defended from those who seek to extinguish it. And of course, when we are together, that's much more hopeful and much more efficient.

"That's why over 800 troops are in Iraq -- Georgian troops side-by-side with the Americans, and Iraqis and many others, to defeat those who live only to kill, to enslave, to frighten people. That is why Georgians are in Afghanistan, and NATO-led missions, and that is why we appreciate the U.S. support for our NATO aspirations, just like the U.S. supported Ukraine on its NATO aspirations."

In my wildest dreams I never would have imagined troops from a former Soviet Union state fighting alongside Americans against tyranny and terrorism.

She has a sister...........who's married to a soldier in Iraq.........wounded by shrapnel, and back at it.

Their Dad was a Navy man.

STARWISE, he hasn't decided what he's going to do about the military. He's getting some real leadership opportunities in the Unit he's now with, and really likes it, but hasn't made his final decision yet.

Now he's got another person's wishes to consider, besides his Mom's. ;o)

And, oh.....CA.........I just don't want daughter to like CA TOO much and settle there.

As of August, my closest kid to home will be 800 miles away!

Lots of prayer, discipline, and HUGE amounts of love, were behind these kids of ours, but they make their own choices, and we are THANKFUL that ours have made good choices.

The fine line between gratefulness to God and pride is often crossed, however.......so I have to be in much prayer still.......

John Adams was about 40 in 1776, and he was considered old. :-)

And while I was admiring the picture, I noticed your tagline, and it absolutely, positively made me laugh out loud - and feel like saying "RIGHT ON!" at the same time.

You're welcome. Dubya and the dogs are always a treat, and the U.S.M.C. are always heros in my book. (And the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coasties, too.)

I have a theory: Dogs are pack oriented, socially, and tend to acknowledge the alpha male in their pack.

That's certainly logical. However, GWB clearly adores dogs, and they adore him back.

I have a story that supports the "leader of the pack" theory. A friend of mine has 2 daughters and he always used to take their dog for his last walk and they used to exercise him during the day.

One night he was walking the dog and a yob approached him the dog growled and immediately step behind my friend almost as if he was saying you are old enough and ugly enough to look after yourself and me.

A couple of days later the girls were out with the dog and again a local yob appeared this time the dog went on the attack pulling on his lead and barking like mad at the lad prooving that there definitely something in the leader of the pack theory.

I have no doubt there's something to the leader of the pack idea. I also have no doubt GWB encourages it in his dogs, LOL!

I'm writing a paper for my Recent American History class. One of the questions is: "Which Democratic president, Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton, do you think was the most successful and why?"

First I'd like to share with you my opening statement:
Trying to decide between Carter and Clinton as the most successful Dem. president is like trying to decide between anchovies and pickled pigs feet as the most disgusting food. You really don't want to choose either one.

Now I'd like to get some of your thoughts. I personally don't think either one was successful, but comparing between the two, I'd have to say Clinton was more successful than Carter.

What do you guys think?

Considering that Clinton was a 2-termer while Carter a 1-termer......

Hi, Snugs!

AZ, to be more serious than I was in my post to you, I think Clinton was the more successful of the two simply because Clinton did more to at least try to "fix" things in this country while all Carter managed to do was whine about a national "Malaise" and creat a gas crisis due to stubbornness.

On the international front, Carter did get a Peace Accord started between Menachem Begin, the PM of Isreal at that time and Anwar Sadat, the President of Egypt at that time. This was, in my opinion, the bravest thing that both pres. Sadat and pres. Carter had ever done considering Sadat had signed his own death warrant when he signed that accord. Carter risked everything. Too bad it didn't last very long as Sadat was assassinated in 1981 and Begin died a few years later and you know what happened to Carter.

But between Carter and Clinton I think Carter was the better of the two.

Hope your prof. is not biased with an opening like that! LOL

IMO and coming from a small California farming family (fruit), Carter just about did the farmers in when he was president. I was young and don't remember exactly what the issue was but I do remember my dad hated Carter and was fearful of losing our farm and livelihood. They were lean years.

She's a bit on the liberal side, and it shows. It's the end of the year and I was feeling a little ballsy. This is actually the first time in a paper I've been very blunt like that. It felt good. :)

Thank you to both of you for your input. My prof. is pretty specific that she wants us to use either lecture notes or our biased text, so I was pretty limited. But I was able to shape the information in order to best suit my answer. But it was interesting to see who you guys chose and why.
