Schiavo Findings Won't Be Rushed

Schiavo findings won't be rushed

Despite conflicting calls for thoroughness and quick results, Jon Thogmartin won't let appeals from the public force his hand.

LARGO - People around the world have talked about the life and death of Terri Schiavo, but Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner Jon Thogmartin will get the last word.

For the past month, he has been working on her autopsy. She has taken over his office and consumed his working hours. He appeared for an interview in blue scrubs, looking every bit the wiry medical examiner with his bald head and tiny wire-rimmed glasses.

"That's her and that's her," he says, pointing to piles of documents and boxes of slides stacked all over his office.

..

Thogmartin, 41, knows Schiavo's autopsy will probably be the most publicized of his career. He won't talk about it until he is done and estimates it will be two or three more weeks.

He has received hundreds of letters and e-mails about the brain-damaged woman who died March 31, 13 days after her feeding tube was removed. Many ask him to look for signs she wasn't brain-dead or signs of abuse, among the allegations made during the protracted battle between her parents and her husband over whether to keep her alive.

"They are of no consequence to me," says Thogmartin of the letters.

The lively Texan, publicity shy and fiercely protective of his wife's and child's privacy, is known for doing everything by the book. He denied requests from Schiavo's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, and her husband, Michael Schiavo, to allow their own pathologists to observe the autopsy.

"It is routine in cases of criminal importance to not allow any biased pathology advocates in the morgue," he said. "I'm the independent pathologist."

YOU are exactly right.

Anyone who wasn't outraged, deeply disturbed, and physically sickened by the BRUTALITY of the US Government against Terri Schindler and her family, is morally corrupt, period.

What is speculative about the word MURDER? They all wanted her dead for various reasons and MONEY tops the list. They murdered her. They took away the one thing that kept her alive, (order of the court). She was otherwise healthy.

The only eating disorder she had was the ones caused by Michael Schiavo. First, he refused to let her learn to eat by mouth, and second, he refused to let her take nourishment by tube.

Very serious eating disorders, caused by the murderer.

I haven't "conceded" anything.

Expert witnesses say what they are expected to say, and juries can be convinced of anything. So, the fact that a jury decided something means nothing to me.

If you need a sample of courtly consistency just look at the O.J. trial. He was found guilty in one court an innocent in another.

If there is a medically recorded history of an eating disorder, and I mean for months or years, not just something that was cooked up at the last minute, And if people in Terri's life who had no reason to be hostile toward her could bare witness to the fact that she had an eating problem, then I might entertain the idea that she had an eating disorder.

Also, I wouldn't except the testimony of any doctor who was not actively involved with Terri at the time of her accident.

Eating disorders don't usually just kill you overnight. It can take months or years for anorexia and other eating disorders to bring you to the brink of death. Terri’s problem should have been well documented and widely known to her friends, family and physicians to have reached a crisis state.

Let me be the first to conclude that the losing entity will say the fix was in.

Terri Schiavo was the losing entity.

Very clever, lj!!!

Amazing how some people will believe otherwise to suit their own agenda.

"It some how justifies Mark Fuhrman making money off this tragedy?"

No it was just a comment re: hours spent with Terri. How Cranford could sit on a news show and speak of a living human being as he did. I don't know anything about the Mark Fuhrman book and where the proceeds are going. Folks that make money off the personal tradgies of others are not so good, you know, like your lawyers, drs., hospices, "widowers".

"It was worthless, the autopsy. It's like the UN investigating themselves, ain't gonna find a thing except more of the same plus the ME refused to have any witnesses. It stinks."

I agree! Dr Wecht, a very respected forensic doctor, made a request to observe the autopsy. I find it very strange that he was he denied. Dr Wecht's experience would have given the autopsy some much needed credibility.

I see no reason why the local ME would have objected to Dr. Wecht. If not Dr. Wecht, then why not have another respected doctor present to either participate or observe?

The public, journalist, as well as doctors, were forbidden to see Terri in life. Guess it's no different that doctors were forbidden to see her in death.

>>>Let's see, now many people standing behind the rope had water to share and didn't?

WOW joesbucks, that was MEAN and un-called-for!

Since when does a discussion of an autopsy warrant a slam
on vigil-goers, as well as your denegrating post #8 of
'conservative christians'?

Are you showing a bigotry against Christians? (and note MY capital 'C')

It seems you came to this thread to poke, jab, and fan flames, instead if discussing
issues in the news.

Just another rock separating the stream, or reminds me about separating the sheep from the goats.

I don't know, it actually shocked and surprised me how many on FR supported her killing. It shocked the h*** out of me.

I'm actually a delicate flower. I don't admit that much!

My thoughts stand. Those who stood by in Pinellas Park did nothing. If Terri was murdered, then they were complicit in the crime. The did absolutely nothing to stop it.

The delay in the final autopsy report isn't a surprise. Forensic pathologist
Michael Badin said it takes 6 weeks of soaking in formaldehyde for a brain to
'stiffen' enough for it to be cross-sectioned and examined microscopically.
So the report couldn't possibly come out before mid-May.

Dr. Badin also said that Thogmartin SHOULD have allowed independent pathologist
Cyril Wecht to oversee the autopsy as he was requested.

This final autopsy report is GUARANTEED to be a whitewash. Pinellas County is
the "Geriatric Murder Capitol of the World", and McCabe, and the county commission,
and probate judge(s) are all part of the theft-racketeers of these people's estates.

Forced Guardianship: A Horror Story
http://justiceforfloridaseniors.org/abusenfraud/index.php?p=10

Medical Examiner Thogmartin was hired after his predecessor, Ms. Woods, was smeared
by McCabe and the county commissioners over her Scientology/Lisa McPherson murder
findings.
http://www.lisamcpherson.org/
McCabe then led the nomination and hiring committees, chose Thogmartin (who had been
employed by Palm Beach County since graduation),
offered him the M.E. position, and he accepted it, all before his name (and only his name)
was sent to Jeb Bush for approval. Thogmartin then reversed Woods findings against
the Scientologists, justifying the actions McCabe and the commissioners had earlier
taken in dropping charges in McPherson's death and blaming Ms. Woods.

Thogmartin is HIGHLY unlikely to issue any controversial report that disagrees
with the County's prior assessment of the Schiavo 'facts'.

You will hear the Terri-haters say hundreds of times in the coming weeks after
the whitewash comes out, that Thogmartin was appointed by Jeb Bush, conveniently
forgetting the rest of the story.

Maybe the religious issue was a Catholic thing? I am unfamiliar with the catholic denomination so that's purely speculation.

Aaah, just like the longtime FReeper who gets disagreed with you have to point to the fact that since you have been a member of FR longer than I have that I am a newbie. OUCH that really hurts (Sarcasm/on) I am so sorry I didn't happen to wander across this fine community earlier, but it still doesn't weaken my opinion, my stance, or my validity to my points. So eternal, just cuz youre old hat at this doesnt make you right. You sound like one of the idiot NCO's I had in the Marines who felt because they were in the Marines for 5 years longer than I was they were somehow intellectually superior. Oh well.. keep living in the dark eternal FReeper. And congratulations on your long and respected tenure on FR. Maybe they will give you a lifetime achievement award sometime soon genius! And not saying that I agree with Felos, but, if you couldn't get your hand to your mouth, would you be able to feed yourself? Doubtful. If you couldn't learn to put a spoon to your mouth because your brain could not function properly could you feed yourself? Doubtful. NO these are not facts, just observations, and like I said in my first post, if you bothered to read it before chipping in your two cents, I said I would stand by what facts are found from the autopsy. I wont argue here nor there whether they agree with my opinion or not. But YOU on the other hand I am sure will go away kicking and screaming if no big conspiracy is found. Hopefully you will accept the facts too when they come out. Or... maybe you will just act like the Dims and say that its a big cooked up scheme to find someone innocent, just like the last two elections. LOL Newbie, LOL, goodness I expected a better arguement from a lifelong FReeper.

I agree Pappy. I am just stating opinions here as many others are. I couldn't agree with your assessment of the media more. I do disagree with you, however, on the part that Terri's parents played in this. Now, I don't have "concrete" facts on her parents and how much they were allowed to see Terri, but I do know that they were not around as much as Michael BEFORE the court case. The parents were upset they were cut out of the malpractice proceedings and also the settlement. I will just leave it at that because I do not have anything but hearsay from our beloved media to back my points. have a good day.

Nor am I Catholic. My thoughts come from those of the Catholic faith I know and have talked to about various issues. How close or far they may be from official doctrine is unknown. They may also attend a parish or have a priest that for better or worse strays from official doctrine or may be more conservative on some issues that other parishes.

I agree. I will be satisfied with the findings of the autopsy and as I said before accept that as the truth. That is my point here. There is so much hearsay, so much speculation, so many conspiracy theorists. Lets just let this arguement, and this issue lie, until the facts do come out. Everyone has already charged, tried and fried MS in this thread. If he is indeed guilty of these horrible facts, then fry him. If not, accept it and move on.
