A day in the life of President Bush (5/7/05): photos

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President and First Lady arrived in the Netherlands, today, on the first leg of their four-day visit to eastern Europe, Russia and the Republic of Georgia. The main focus of the visit is to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Nazi Germany's defeat.

According to the Associated Press, President Bush "second-guessed Franklin D. Roosevelt," when he said Saturday that the United States played a role in Europe's painful division after World War II. The President said it was a decision that helped cause "one of the greatest wrongs of history" when the Soviet Union imposed its harsh rule across Central and Eastern Europe.

President Bush said the lessons of the past will not be forgotten as the United States tries to spread freedom in the Middle East.

The President spent the day with the leaders of three Baltic republics, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Many in the Baltic countries are still bitter about the Soviet annexation of their countries and the harsh occupation that followed the war for nearly 50 years. Acknowledging that anger and frustration still linger, Bush said that "we have a great opportunity to move beyond the past." His message here, and throughout his trip, is that the world is entering a new phase of freedom and all countries should get on board.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "We will not repeat the mistakes of other generations, appeasing or excusing tyranny, and sacrificing freedom in the vain pursuit of stability," the president said. "We have learned our lesson; no one's liberty is expendable. In the long run, our security and true stability depend on the freedom of others." President George W. Bush in a speech in Riga, Latvia.

So there must be another, Small Hall of the Big Guild Hall. They probably moved all the extra furniture there to clear the first hall for the occasion.

Good job with the dose today. I hope you had an enjoyable island day. I have to say that a particular beach in the South Pacific is one of my favorite spots.

Here are some photos from our recent election that I thought people might find interesting.

What fun to see your pictures! The baby is adorable! Why is that man next to Mr. Howard dressed like he is? Is there some significance? I think that Leo resembles his father!

Thanks for posting!

The man standing next to Howard was the candidate for the Raving Loony Party and his "name" is Toby Jug. This party was started by Lord Sutch many years ago and puts candidates up at most constituencies.

Hi snugs, How are ya?

I added the Desk and Credenza to my home office (which my Wife calls the Dungeon) and I spent all day assembling the two of them, I just finished an hour ago. I'll post a pic in a few minutes :-)

newbie or not you have to have the toaster it was a joke started by Brad's Grandma about broken toasters etc I have sort of taken it on and tailored it to what people want yesterday the virtual gift was Barney toaster.

Here is your toaster which is one that Starwise found a couple of weeks ago and I have been dying to post it for someone.
