A day in the life of President Bush (5/7/05): photos

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President and First Lady arrived in the Netherlands, today, on the first leg of their four-day visit to eastern Europe, Russia and the Republic of Georgia. The main focus of the visit is to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Nazi Germany's defeat.

According to the Associated Press, President Bush "second-guessed Franklin D. Roosevelt," when he said Saturday that the United States played a role in Europe's painful division after World War II. The President said it was a decision that helped cause "one of the greatest wrongs of history" when the Soviet Union imposed its harsh rule across Central and Eastern Europe.

President Bush said the lessons of the past will not be forgotten as the United States tries to spread freedom in the Middle East.

The President spent the day with the leaders of three Baltic republics, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Many in the Baltic countries are still bitter about the Soviet annexation of their countries and the harsh occupation that followed the war for nearly 50 years. Acknowledging that anger and frustration still linger, Bush said that "we have a great opportunity to move beyond the past." His message here, and throughout his trip, is that the world is entering a new phase of freedom and all countries should get on board.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "We will not repeat the mistakes of other generations, appeasing or excusing tyranny, and sacrificing freedom in the vain pursuit of stability," the president said. "We have learned our lesson; no one's liberty is expendable. In the long run, our security and true stability depend on the freedom of others." President George W. Bush in a speech in Riga, Latvia.

NOTE TO ALL: There are many photos available on Yahoo. I wanted to get the Dose up, but will have to leave and come back later. I will put up more photos later this evening, and also late tomorrow afternoon, upon returning from Catalina Island, where I'm going for the day.

The President and First Lady were given bouquets of pink tulips on their arrival at Maastricht. As you can see, Laura was wearing an absolutely gorgeous sky blue suit.

The President found a baby to hold at Maastrict Aachen airport. The little one looks quite happy to be held by the stranger from America.

The Dutch honor guard -- or was it a guard to keep away the Leftists who wanted to arrest our President? [Pfffttttt!!! I'm still disgruntled about that.]

Hey, Euro-Left twits, check out what it says on the seal on Air Force One. That is the President of the United States you dorks want to arrest. You know -- the country with the biggest, baddest military on the planet?

If you think this big bird is impressive, you ain't seen nothing yet. It's just the polite, pretty side of our Air Force.

OUR President and First Lady arrive.
