KINGDOM OF HEAVEN

Posted on 05/07/2005 8:34:45 AM PDT by TheSorcererwiththeCosmicKey

went to Kingdom of Heaven last night, and since i'm a huge fan of these type of pictures: full blown epics, i loved it. Of course, i could see why someone would not like it. First off, I was most impressed by: the sets and the costumes are awesome, like all of Ridley's Scott's other films, "black hawk down', ' gladiator' you are seriously thrown back into the time that he is trying to create and in this picture, you can feel the Crusades and you feel it.

Much has been in the presses about how the film would portray both religions, Christianity and Islam. However, both are given fair portrayls, ideologies, yet highlights the dangers of fanatical followers of both of the religions.

I know there are a lot of Orlando Bloom detractors out there, personally I thought his performance as Balian was pretty good. He is definitely no Russell Crowe or Mel Gibson type epic hero, but I think that was the plan. I think Scott wanted a quiet hero type. However, the whole relationship with Eva Green's character is sort of thrown around, she's great to look at, but their whole relationshuip was as i mentioned '' thrown together.'

All in all, my favorite scenes were: Balian taking on several knights at once, Balian counter-attacks vs. Saladin, when Baldwin the leper king and Saladin come face to face infront of both of their armies, pure awesome, when Baldwin slaps the * out of the * Reynald played by Brendan Gleeson, and when Balian kisses his sword, before he goes into battle.

Speaking of Baldwin, the leper king, he is played by the great Edward Norton, however, Norton goes throughout the whole film in a mask, due to the fact that his illness severely scared his face.

And yes, it stars Orlando Bloom as a very pretty Paris.....
.....

Seems he's the must have actor for epics these days. From Tolkien to Troy to Taliban's Kingdom of Heaven

Agreed.

If Charles Martel hadn't stopped the Moors, I'm sure Europe would have had a a bad situation on their hands.

I like your take on the situation.

Arioch7 out.

Troy has some very fine performances by the principle actors and actresses, and the story moves along well. If you want to see an old-style classic epic, rent "Troy".

Yes, and justifiably so, as a result of his "Lord of the Rings" triumph. He also attracts the young crowd who will bring repeat business to the film, like Leo DiCaprio did for "Titanic".

It doesn't take that much... A 16x9 HDTV with a good stereo receiver with a subwoofer and a good progressive scan DVD player is all you need.

Your loss. I enjoy watching a flick at home much better than on the big screen now. A 51" HDTV Hitachi, Onkyo 7.1 DD receiver with a subwoofer, center channel and five speakers, two in the front and three in the back; with a Panasonic progressive scan DVD player.

No kids. No talking. No feeling of upset stomach at the smell of theater popcorn.

No kids. No talking. No...smell of theater popcorn.

Common complaints about the cineplex experience. For these reasons, more and more people are just staying home and waiting for the DVD to come out.

So far Kingdom has only grossed a mere 20 million. Somehow I don't think this is going to be another Gladiator.

"Hate to burst your bubble. but I believe that Orlando Bloom is gay."

Tell that to his girlfriend. Her name is Kate Bosley I think (she was in the movie Blue Crush).

I want to see a modern epic movie made about the Mongol conquest of the Middle east.

Good morning.

I just wanted to let you know that the wife and I saw Kingdom of Heaven last night and I recommend it highly.

There are parts of the plot that are less than credible but, hey, it's just a movie.

Uh Raivyn, you're probably too young to remember this but there was this actor named Rock Hudson who had the most beautiful women in the world as girlfriends. He was gayer that than a Junebug in May and died of AIDS. I hope Orlando isn't gay but having a woman by his side means nothing. Oscar Wilde had a wife and two kids.

Making them both bisexual...
Gay implies a like for same sex only.
(Maybe that's just for us young folks to understand.)

It is a good movie, with good themes.

I may have to add the DVD to my tiny collection. :-)
