Officer investigates possibility of ghosts in his own home

By Ilona Carson
ABC13 Eyewitness News

(5/05/05 - CYPRESS, TX) — Houston's police officers usually hunt down criminals, but one lieutenant has been spending his time hunting ghosts -- in his own home.

It has all the makings of a movie, but this isn't fiction - it's a home right here in Texas. In fact, it's just up Highway 249 in Cypress. The home has been drawing ghost-hunters, sight-seers and the curious.

It is quite a story. The couple moved in about two years ago. He is a Houston police officer. He says by nature he is very skeptical but even he couldn't explain what was going on in his own home.

Soon after moving in, Harry and Leslie Zamora noticed a lot of strange things happening in their house – doors opening and closing, chairs moved around at the dinner table.

"We would come back in here and a chair would be out (away from the table)," said Leslie.

A bathroom light turned on so many times, Leslie taped the switch down. They thought they were crazy, but when the eerie occurrences didn't subside, they decided to document them.

The Zamoras set up infrared cameras and they captured images of orbs of light. Sometimes they were still, sometimes they streaked across the image. They appeared in hallways and on walls, and even outside the home, where the Zamoras had placed a cross. What are these apparitions? They say they are only two ways to explain the phenomenon.

Harry said, "Scientists believe it's some kind of energy. Some people think it's spiritual or in that realm. "

The Zamoras believe in the latter, saying they have a strong faith. They had a pastor bless the house and they have hung crosses in every room.

Now Harry is working with other police officers to document similar occurrences. They call themselves the Phenomena Police. Their goal is to help people to make peace with the spirits he says are around us all.

Those officers are spending some of their off-duty time working with a TV production company to start a TV pilot. They start shooting that on Monday.

One time I was riding my motorcycle down a windy mountain road and enjoying the beautiful day when all of a sudden, as I approached the driveway of a large estate, the image of a man standing in the road just occurred to me. It was as if he was flagging me down. It was daylight and I knew that there was no such thing, but the reality of it was enough to give me a shudder. I actually drove through the body (at least, where I imagined it) of the man.

Later, almost a year later, I discovered that a murder had taken place at the estate almost 50 years earlier. I mentioned to the person who informed me of this the experience I had and they said that others had experienced the same thing.

Woooooooooooo......

And they will make a killing.

I once had these pain in the you-know-what neighbors that would have loud parties to all hours of the night.

They would turn on the cable and blast MTV or some movie with open windows and tons of people way past 1AM.

So there was a ghostly intervention, I also had cable. I had the same cable box and same remote control.
All I can say is, that the range of a remote control must be incredible.

They got me mad, so when after ten they would have these loud times, I used my remote to constantly return all their programming back to TBN, religious programming.

I did this three or four different nights until these parties stopped and their ghost also seemed to go away. :-)

My niece and her husband live here in Michigan in Grosse Pointe where they rent a house. They DO have a ghost which has been substantiated by several others who have seen it and it is not a friendly ghost either.

Its the ghost of a person who was found to have hung himself in the basement years and years ago.

Reminds me of those Roto-Rooter Guys who had that "Ghost Hunter" Show last fall. I rather enjoyed that show except for the soap-opera in-fighting they started to throw in (presumably to add "interest"?)

Thanks for the ping CurlyBill. I always look forward to your ghost stories.

If the chair thing happens often I'd set up a video camera. I'd like to see the chair move.

That's funny! I did something similar to my brother and his friends years ago. They were all over sitting in our family room watching TV and carrying on. We had cable in two rooms and both remotes worked in either room. I walked outside and started changing channels. They couldn't figure out what was going on.

Yeah, that's what I would do as well. Funny thing is, if the chair did move, people would say it was fake. Did you happen to see the Ghost Hunters show this past season? They did one show at a lighthouse up in New England where they set up a camera in the top floor. When the guy who was sitting there got up and left, the chair that he sat in suddenly moved several inches. That was freaky.... and I would hope the show wouldn't fake something like that.

Yes I did see that and that is what I was thinking about earlier. Unfortunately that video was somewhat grainy.

I am so fascinated by these things.

To me, the orbs sometimes seem like just mistakes on film.

I don't know about the cross thing. If the ghosts exist then I bet they are probably as influenced by a cross as they were before. Some would respect it, some would not care.

There is this movie called The Others made in 2001 with Nicole Kidman. When I saw it advertised on tv I thought it was silly and did not care to watch it but one day this winter it was all that was on tv. I don't have cable, it was on TBS.

What an interesting concept I must say. The ghosts did not know they were ghosts and in fact thought they were being disturbed and haunted by what turned out to be the "real" people.

Thanks for the ping, CurlyBill. I just finished reading a fascinating novel which surrounds the phenomena of lightening. I would be curious to know if these phenomena in the officer's house is occurring regularly or in certain weather.

That film was so creepy. Good, but creepy.

Perhaps that explains why he's still 'hanging' around ;-)

That was pretty cool... but the prison in NY was better. I was impressed!

Like I've said before, 'UFO's' & 'the paranormal' occur... but why do people insist they are flying saucers & ghosts?

Answer; Becuase for lack of a scientific explanation... it's better than just standing there with a dropped-jaw!

As the man says in Men In Black, just imagine what you will "know" tomorrow.

It is so fascinating to hear paranormal stories. I believe most people have one and they may be more common than we think.
