Responding to a directive from the Vatican, Archbishop Harry Flynn has advised all parishes in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis to deny communion to anyone wearing a rainbow-colored sash.
For the past four years, supporters of the Rainbow Sash Alliance USA -- a group of Catholics who are active in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community -- have worn the sashes to receive communion at the St. Paul Cathedral on Pentecost Sunday, the anniversary date of the group's founding in 1998.

Their agenda is to destroy the church!
They want nothing to stand in their way, not the Church, nor schools, nor parents.
Brian McNeill is distorting the truth.
According to the article (and its title), the Bishop is saying he doesn't want communion distributed to sash-wearing supporters of the Rainbow Sash Alliance USA.
Their entire discussions are based on distorting the truth
Cast them outside where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
The folks coming up to receive Communion wearing a Rainbow Sash are there to make a political statement, NOT to receive the Sacrament. I'm glad the Archbishop has made this decision.
Is this completely out of the question?
Um...isn't it supposed to be God first, and "me" second? These sinners don't get it. Wearing a sash means "me" first, "God" second.
If communion is given to these political activists could that church possibly be in danger of losing its tax-exempt status?
In my Parish, that behavior would result in them being thown out on their head, literally.
The Catholic Church is not a public accomodation, if you disagree with the rules go to a someplace you do agree with.
Your rights end where they mine begin.
My reply to any judge who rules that these troublemakers have a "right" to communion is, "make me, bozo".
"It's quite fitting that on the day that actual Catholics celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, these losers have decided to celebrate themselves and interfere with this solemn and joyous memorial."
Actually it is Acension Thursday. The day The Lord Acended into Heaven. The Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles would be Pentecost Sunday. 9 Days later.
Just thought I'd mention this. Not trying to Bust your chops. I agree with you otherwise.
No it's not. It's Friday right now. And if you had read the article, you would see I was referring to the following:<>For the past four years, supporters of the Rainbow Sash Alliance USA -- a group of Catholics who are active in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community -- have worn the sashes to receive communion at the St. Paul Cathedral on Pentecost Sunday, the anniversary date of the group's founding in 1998.
the reason why they wear the sashes and stand silently in protest is because they can legally be arrested for disturbing the peace if they chant or shout or demosntrate in church.
So they have come up with a strategy to desecrate the Eucharist in a Catholic Church in a technically legal way.
Obviously you are a nitpicker... I KNOW IT IS FRIDAY !!!!!
AND I DID READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE. DID YOU NOT SEE MY ENTIRE REPLY??? I AGREED WITH YOU... YOU WERE THE ONE THAT REFERRED TO THIS BEING THE FEAST OF THE HOLY SPIRIT DESCENDING UPON THE APOSTLES. I WAS MERELY POINTING OUT IT WAS ACTUALLY THE ACENSION OF THE LORD WHICH IS DIFFERENT THAN WHAT YOU HAD REFERRED TO !!!!
