Retired Army Col. David Hackworth, a decorated Vietnam veteran who spoke out against the war and later became a journalist and an advocate for military reform, died Wednesday in Mexico, where he was receiving treatment for bladder cancer, his wife said. He was 74.
"He died in my arms yesterday morning," his wife, Eilhys England, said Thursday.
Hackworth, a syndicated columnist for King Features, advocated a streamlined military and improved conditions for troops.

Well, I didn't always agree with the man, but I respected him for the service he gave this nation, and for his love of it.
Sleep well, Colonel. Thank you for all you've done.

Hack, I know you spoke from your heart, right or wrong. We thank you for your service and sacrifice. You will be missed.

Hack remind me of Col. Herbert, both of the were egotistic and arrogant grandstander's.
He fought for his right to say what he wanted and earned it.
I fought for the same right and I thought he was full of crap.

They operate in Mexico because the AMA/FDA in this country sees fit to blacklist treatments that work.Sorry, but unless you can give me some hard data, I don't believe it. The US remains the world leader in medical treatment of all diseases. There is a reason why the wealthy and the powerful from around the globe come to the US for treatment. Asserting that the AMA/FDA are obtacles in blocking "treatments that work" don't jibe with me. What is their motivation?

RIP Colonel. Was the fittest looking 74 year old on the planet.

Wonder why he was in Mexico for treatment? No doubt they were desperate and out of existing conventional medical options. Remember Steve McQueen?

Wonder why he was in Mexico for treatment? Probably getting the Hoxsey Cancer Treatment at the Bio-Medical Institute in Tijuana. Although there are other similar centers in Tijuana and elsewhere in Mexico.

Not uncommon. He was getting treatment that Americans were unwilling to perform. Or unable to perform without the FDA getting on their case.

And I know of no one who those quacks in Mexico have cured. I do. My office mate's husband has lived several years beyond what the US doctor's predicted. He's still going downhill, but fairly slowly. He's also under treatment by a local hospice for the terminally ill, having been terminal for those several years. His wife has no illusions that he'll be "cured", but wants to keep him around as long as she can. At least so there grandchildren can have known their grandpa. He's in his mid to early 50s, and is also a Vietnam Vet and former Marine who switched to the Army from which he retired about 10 or so years ago.
