FReeper Canteen~May~National Military Appreciation Month~May 5, 2005

For the freedom you enjoyed yesterday...
Thank the Veterans who served in The United States Armed Forces.

~May~ National Military
Appreciation Month~

We thank you, you who volunteer
To join the military to protect
what's here...
The Constitution, the Rule of law,
Our way of freedom loved by all
In this wondrous land of ours
Whose Stars and Stripes flow freely
O’er the land, whose seas are free,
Don’t tread on us... we are too, proud
To let you turn us into dust!

We appreciate your bravery, your valor,
Your honor, your gallantry,
Thank You for all you do.
And let Freedom ring the whole world through.

The price that's paid for freedom made
an entire family terribly sad.
A nation must know the price that's paid
of blood, of tears, of love,
greater than any made
a life for freedom paid.

May our gracious God touch the hearts
and ease their pain.
Their loved one did not die in vain...
A Hero walks tall in a lofty land
of peace and will be forever young,
In the Mansions of the Lord.

Amen

I need a little help. Does anyone know where I can download a Hi-Res copy of the picture of the American soldier holding the Iraqi child that was mortally wounded by the terrorist IED? It's an Army picture that they've been showing on the news. I've been to the Defense and Army sites and it's not there. The AP picture is a poor quality copy.

FORWARD OPERATING BASE SPEICHER, TIKRIT, Iraq - One of the quickest ways of travel across the Iraqi desert is by helicopter flight, but prolonged exposure to the dust and sand, can lead to premature wear of vital helicopter components causing unsafe operating conditions and in-flight malfunctions.

Preservation of these vital components calls for frequent inspections and servicing by maintenance crews who work 12-hour shifts in a 24-hour operation.

“For every operational hour of flight time, there are many hours of maintenance performed by the maintenance crews,” said California National Guardsman Staff Sgt. John Ornalas, UH-60 airframe technician, Company C, 1st Battalion, 140th Aviation, Task Force Liberty. “Because the helicopters go up so often, we have to run a round-the-clock maintenance shop.”

The battalion is from Los Alamitas, California.
