Husband makes cheating wife pay for time spent raising lover's child

A FRENCHMAN has won a ground-breaking ruling against his former wife and her lover, ordering them to pay back the money that he had spent on bringing up a child he had mistakenly assumed to be his own.

The man, named as G in the ruling, was awarded €23,000 (£15,600) after a DNA test revealed that he was not the father of the 13-year-old child, Astrid.

He had raised her as his own daughter, paying for her food, clothing, toys, schoolbooks and holidays, the Caen Appeal Court in Normandy said. It added that his former wife, B, from Cherbourg, had always had doubts about the identity of Astrid’s father: she was unsure whether it was her husband or her lover.

The judges said that she had committed a “fault” by failing to tell her husband that she had been having an affair at the time of the conception and that she did not know whose daughter Astrid was.

The court denounced the lover, named as L, who suspected that Astrid might have been his child, but who also failed to air his suspicions.

I wonder what my ex-wife would say about this, considering she recently decided to prove that my 11 year old daughter was really fathered by some other "sperm donor". Not that I would do anything like this; I don't begrudge the support I gave her. She will always be my daughter in my heart.

You're a good man.

I do feel for the girl in this article. Seems that she has two fathers but in reality, none.

Anyone can father a child. It takes a special person to be a *dad*.

I'm very sorry, that's a rotten thing for her to have done. You're a good person. And remember, it's more than just sperm donation that makes a man a father....

I feel sorry for the little girl in this article, too.

Here's one of those "International Law" cases the SCOTUS will never cite.

That's so sad. I'm very sorry to hear that.
I'm sure you'll always be her father as well.

You're a good sort.

Your ex going after the other guy for support now? You still going to support her too? What a tangled web.

Sad story, but maybe there is something in Sandra Day O'Connor referring to foreign law.

To my knowledge, this would never happen here in the US, once the male signs a birth certificate, he is held forever liable.

God bless you.

I have an uncle, and after he caught his first wife in an affair, she said that their son was not his. The family accepted that.

I've always had my doubts, since my uncle intended to sue for custody of the boy... and then she said it wasn't his.

I've always wondered if I don't have a cousin out there that I don't know.

Ohhh... the cuckoo... she's a fine bird...
And she warbles as she flies.

It is a successful if reprehensible reproductive strategy to shift costs.

Oh man. This is France too! The testing clinics are going to be OVERRUN with worried dads. NOT a good time to be an adulteress in France.

"You're a good man."

"I do feel for the girl in this article. Seems that she has two fathers but in reality, none."

Very well put. I know that this "G" person was trying to take out his anger with this suit. But look at the message he sent to his daughter. He raised her all those years so she is his daughter.

Now she knows that he thinks of her as nothing more than a financial burden. She probably has no connection to the biological father, so now she is alone with a mother who has been proven to be a tramp by a court of law.
