Snip...
For the mainly Democratic audience - this was a crowd of Washington journalists and luminaries from Hollywood and Manhattan - it was an evening of cognitive dissonance. How to reconcile this charming image on stage with the Bush they love to bash?
Snip...
Mrs. Bush's performance, and her husband's reaction, wasn't a shock to the reporters who cover the White House. For years they have tried to convince their friends outside Washington that Mr. Bush is actually not a close-minded dolt, and Mrs. Bush is no Stepford Wife or Church Lady. Yes, they're Texans who go to church and preach family values, but they're not yahoos or religious zealots.

ROTFLOL!
That's hilarious! LOL!
Wow hahaha!!! Calm Down Please!!!!! The reason some of us thought this was funny (including me) is the fact that we know that First Lady Laura isn't like that. If she was like that we would not be laughing. Would you be laughing if we heard the same thing coming out of Senator Clinton's mouth? I don't think so. Since Laura is from Texas she knows the horse joke. Heck, 90% of the people at that dinner probably don't know how to tell a male and female horse apart unless they look between the legs. Her writer probably knew that.
Who on earth ARE these prigs?
Most of them.
You said: The First Lady's jokes most certainly did NOT descend into the gutter.
I agree. In the paraphrased words of John Riggins to Justice Sandra "Sandie" Day O'Connor..... "Lighten up, baby."
ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I've got to clean my monitor!!!!!!!!!
ROTFLOL! You too! That's one of her best...lol. Pithy too.
Probably not, but they were never INTENDED for a family Christian radio program. They were delivered to and intended for a group of adults at an annual dinner known for it's 'adult humor'. Mrs. Bush's jokes were extremely mild considering some of the things said at those dinners in the past.
As far as the 'milking the bull' joke, it was intended to be a funny poke at the way the media treats her husband, as some sort of doofus. That's the reason behind her Yale and Andover comments as well. No, he didn't attend those schools to be a rancher, but he DID attend them, and she was pointing that out to those who still cling to the notion that the President is some sort of un-educated boob.
I don't think she was playing to the crowd. The mother-in-law joke was funny. Don't worry so much about the media. Didn't you hear the ending? How much she loves her in-laws and the whole Bush clan? I'm sure she wouldn't insult Barbara Bush. I wouldn't be surprised if Barbara Bush knew about the joke beforehand. I totally respect and like Mrs. Bush I. She also has a good sense of humor.
AMAZING, isn't it?
Bet HE was laughing loudest!
And President Bush was laughing hardest at Laura's jokes.
.....and here I thought the Horse joke was that Dubya didn't know the difference between a horse or cow......
funny thing is, Laura didn't sound like she was sexually frustrated at all that night ;o)
I dunno but they certainly seem to know a lot about how to jack-off a horse.
That's what I thought too!
Now, isn't FR a wonderful place; see, the Holier Than Thou crowd is here to drag your mind into the gutter with theirs!
Get behind me satan!
