'24' : An hour of realism
The Washington Times ^ | 4/29/05 | Christian Toto

Fox's "24" is pulling off the unthinkable this season. No, it's not that it's one-upping previous seasons with an electric blend of nightmare terrorist scenarios and bold twists. It's that it's dispensing with the politically correct evasions that pervade prime time episodic television. "24" identifies the terrorist enemy without flinching and lets the good guys fight to win -- without apologies. In the process, the show is earning a conservative cult following.

I do worry though that the terrorists could get ideas from these shows, I keep hoping that good Muslim boys are in bed by 9:00 pm if they have to get up for dawn prayers eh?

"Oh yeah, forgot about Edgar. He's pretty forgetable."

As an IT kinda guy myself, I think Edgar is spot on incompetant and fits the part. Reminds me of a guy I know named Jack, rides a bike, legally blind, great at IT but, BLIND obviously in so many ways.

"you aren't talking colostomy bag are ya?"

No. It was just a joke. The Colonel always went somewhere else, you know.

Apparently the security of the entire country rests on the shoulders of one guy

You mean, like the guy who had a "bad feeling" about Mohammed Atta on 9/11 but let him board the flight anyway? One person can make a difference.

24 Live Thread!

(Go to the end of the thread, we've been going since the 1st episode this season.)

I am ashamed to admit it , but I am addicted to 24. I love the show. When Cloe shot the guy last week I was smiling from ear to ear.

Funny, that's what Mrs. SlowBoat called the rat we were chasing - until the sticky trap got him! Humane traps be damned! Break the rat's thumbs until he tells you where the nukes are!

"it is CSI Vegas all the way"

I live in Vegas, it's a good show, but sometimes they burn me soooo bad. Hey! That's not Vegas! I ant to scream when they show trees in the desert, or hills just outside of town, or older mansions (nothing old here anymore), or other cliches. Still, it's fun too.

Cuz it's a trainwreck every episode.
The bad guys are kicking our ass with body counts.
One Hajii is taking out three or four red shirts.
Then, Jack takes out 3 or 4 more Hajii's PER HOUR.
If they're so easy to kill, how bad are the "Red Shirts"?

Right!

I need Jack here instead of that soft-hearted wimp, the DP.

I love 24 too. Last week as usual was fantastic.
Chloe was great. It's popular because it is NOT PC.
The stupid networks should wake up.

I think before you go around calling people you don't even know a moron, you should look at yourself in the mirror and remind yourself that YOU are the one watching this garbage.

But you are posting your "intellectual" judgement on a show you don't like. I guess that does make you a moron.

Why do you feel we care about your review of 15 minutes of viewing? HOW DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE PLOT LINES IF YOU DON'T WATCH?

I spend a lot of time reading. The 15 minute viewing was easy enough to spot as a rehash of Rosenberg's "The Last Jihad". There is plenty going on in the real world. I'd rather not waste the time on TV fantasy.

Well, is Shane a dead redneck walking or what this year?

Man, you said it. Shane signed his death warrant this past episode. Vic's killed for a helluva lot less.

Fine, but why do you feel obligated to post on the thread? Do you feel so superior to people who enjoy a fictional show? Or are you just a pompous gasbag?
