I read Laura's comments and fell over laughing. For all those criticising her - Good grief!! Cant people appreciate humor anymore?? Laura was awesome and if people cant enjoy a joke there is something seriously wrong with them..

What a pile of straight-laced prudes we have here. I'm in that upper age group listed above and I found Laura Bush hilarious! I've never seen Desperate Housewives, but I know what they are about and laughed away. I had to look up "Chippendales" later to see who they really were, but I got the gist at the moment and found that hilarious, too! The barnyard stuff is even funnier coming from such a proven lady as Laura Bush!

She made the other side sit up and look at Laura Bush in a way they never imagined. She has depth, as we know, and she can now add comedic humor to the layers. No one is going to take this sweet smiling, sit to one side lady for granted any longer. The fuddy duddies of the world have had their narrow little views shaken -------by one wonderful gal!

Not every joke has a sexual double meaning. Long married couples with a sense of humor say a lot of stuff that could be taken more than one way depending on the mindset of the listener. The Dagwood and Blondie comic strip used to have a running comment, 'husbands are a sorry lot', and Laura Bush played to that theme. The joke about Desperate Housewives was not meant to be sexual. It dealt with the universal frustration of wives chafing at their stuck in a rut husbands. The male stripper joke was funny because it was so foreign to what we associate with Laura Bush or any of the ladies she mentioned. And so on and so on. I am wondering why the critiques of her performance end short of her final dialog which was so full of love for her husband, her girls, and the Bush family. I hope both the President and his wife retain their sense of humor and have many more long years of a loving and humorous marriage.
