Who knew? First lady Laura Bush took over the podium from her husband at Saturday night's annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner and knocked 'em dead, keeping Washington's most powerful politicos in stitches as she worked the ballroom like a seasoned stand-up comic.

Although Washington's movers and shakers laughed at Mrs. Bush's performance, some in the press woke up with a Sunday morning hangover and began to criticize her monologue as immodest at best and downright bawdy at worst.
"Laura Bush cracks risque jokes at the White House Correspondents' dinner," sniffed Agence France-Presse. CNN reporter Elaine Quijano, who attended the dinner, also apparently had her sensibilities scarred by some of the first lady's quips.
"In some respects, I think for some folks it was a little shocking because she kind of crossed the line a little bit in some people's minds," she said.
"It was very risque," the Nation's David Korn said yesterday on Fox News. "I was wondering what the social conservatives and James Dobson had to say about all these jokes that were laced with sexual innuendo. Not a very family-values-type speech. I'm not sure I want to explain a lot of those jokes to my 4-year-old."
Eyebrows were raised by the first lady's bit about the president's ranching skills, which Mrs. Bush said her husband lacked because the elite schools he attended, Andover and Yale, "don't have a real strong ranching program."
She then added: "He's learned a lot about ranching since that first year when he tried to milk the horse. What's worse, it was a male horse."
The crowd howled. The joke, a female Associated Press reporter said, "had women giggling in the bathroom."

Well thank God for both sides on this thread.
The web site that started this whole thing is a satire site, similar to the Onion or Scrappleface. The whole issue is actually a joke!
I don't have to call you names; your own posts prove how obsessed you are with the "small group."

If you're so worried about the "small group," whomever they may be, perhaps you need a life outside FR? This isn't high school.
It is all in your dirty mind she did not mean any of this in her joke about the horse/cow mix up. The joke was exactly what she said take it at face value and stop trying to read more into it anywise one might think it is you that is the one that is indulging in a dubious sexual fantasy.
Excuse me? Laura did tell these jokes last night, unless Dan Rather was the cameraman at the dinner.
Not to me; in fact, the remarks she was replying to WAS offensive to Southern women and sounded like it did come from the Wallace family.
Oh, get real. If you had grown up in the country, you would have heard that joke as a kid. It just shows how stupid some new "country" people are. I do not remember how old I was the first time I heard it. I guess people who grew up in the country have a different sense of humor that others. Y'all are getting worked up over nothing.
Well, there's a comment that elevates this conversation out of the gutter. NOT!!
But then, I guess some will think Laura tried to pull a fast one on us because GASP, SAY IT AIN'T SO!!.. she didn't actually write her own jokes.
I am just trying to let those who may not know and are getting attacked for posting a viewpoint different from you and your gang.
They need to know that they are not the first ones, won't be the last, etc...just to give them a history on the attacks we see here on FR by the same old suspects.
Good to see that you are still ending your posts with insults, snide remarks, etc....
Hey, I grew up in the Midwest but know that limerick about that dude from Nantucket. Doesn't mean I'd want the President or the First Lady to tell it in a public setting.
I've already read their tripe. The left is a mental disease. Nothing the right does is acceptable. While the left tells scathing, horrible, trash and filth filled jokes, they hate it when the repubs look like humans.
Don't get me started. Quite frankly, I don't give a rip what anybody said. I saw the program and I was not offended. If people were offended - IT'S THEIR PROBLEM.
Paranoid much?
You mean the First Lady can not have a sense of humor? Why are some people so worked up over a joke that has been around for many, many years? That is how some people in the country made fun of some of the newcomers who did not have a clue as to what farming was all about. I thought it was funny when I first heard it as a kid and still do.
Like I said, you're obsessed with not being what you call "the small crowd." High School U.S.A.
You and your gang can keep telling yourself that. I will continue to let people know the real scoop.
Your influence over FR has dwindled. You can call off your gang now......
For some reason, she really *needs* for the people who disagree with her to be a "small group."
And I sure wish I knew who my "gang" is.........LOL. Are you in "my gang?"
