Who knew? First lady Laura Bush took over the podium from her husband at Saturday night's annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner and knocked 'em dead, keeping Washington's most powerful politicos in stitches as she worked the ballroom like a seasoned stand-up comic.
CUT
Although Washington's movers and shakers laughed at Mrs. Bush's performance, some in the press woke up with a Sunday morning hangover and began to criticize her monologue as immodest at best and downright bawdy at worst.
"Laura Bush cracks risque jokes at the White House Correspondents' dinner," sniffed Agence France-Presse. CNN reporter Elaine Quijano, who attended the dinner, also apparently had her sensibilities scarred by some of the first lady's quips.
"In some respects, I think for some folks it was a little shocking because she kind of crossed the line a little bit in some people's minds," she said.
"It was very risque," the Nation's David Korn said yesterday on Fox News. "I was wondering what the social conservatives and James Dobson had to say about all these jokes that were laced with sexual innuendo. Not a very family-values-type speech. I'm not sure I want to explain a lot of those jokes to my 4-year-old."
Eyebrows were raised by the first lady's bit about the president's ranching skills, which Mrs. Bush said her husband lacked because the elite schools he attended, Andover and Yale, "don't have a real strong ranching program."
She then added: "He's learned a lot about ranching since that first year when he tried to milk the horse. What's worse, it was a male horse."
The crowd howled. The joke, a female Associated Press reporter said, "had women giggling in the bathroom."

I'll up the ante. Not only are you vulgar and irrational, you're an outright phony.
Trouble is your definition of sins. When this clashes with another's definition of sin your rebuke is nothing but worthless seed, spewed upon the dirt.
God; it is refreshing to be reminded of His Irony. Thanks.
Why, I'm shocked that you would hold that opinion. Shocked!
I do not see the love of Christ in any of the things you are posting. You need to read Romans 2:1 and take a good look at yourself and recognize how mean-spirited you appear to be. You have insulted everyone who did not agree with your judgment of Mrs. Bush. IMHO, legalistic and holier-than-thou Christians do as much, if not more, harm to the spead of Christianity as an atheist does. There is nothing wrong with being a happy Christian and having a sense of humor!
~oooooh~ ;~D
Took me about ten seconds after I'd moved past the post that I snorted ;^>
So... when the Lord is someday sitting there in the judgment chair...
Are you gonna be raising your hand questioning his judgements then too? Or is that just for now... ?
Pesky, you mean well, but you are missing something. Read Peter's first sermon in Acts. He began by calling the council the murderers of Christ. "...ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain..." (Acts 2) Was there the "love of Christ" in this pronouncement of judgement upon the leaders of Peter's day? Of course there was! You cannot heal the sick, unless the sick know they are sick!
You're a disturbed and scary person.
On this thread you referred to the first lady twice as being a 'slut'

Cdorrection. You did not go "over the top" in criticizing Laura Bush. You're simply wrong.
Scary as in you're a psychotic to be calling the First Lady a 'slut'
You really need a nice little visit from the MIB
As a person who has walked with the Lord for nearly 50 years, I see absolutely no sin in what Laura said........therefore I do not see what she did as bad judgement.
On the other hand, I have seen abundant sin in your posts, and those who share your filthy perspective.
And I will continue to pray for your soul, and for your redemption through the blood of Christ.
The question was posed, "How would you explain these jokes to a 4 year old?" Ignoring the fact that the speech was aimed at an adult audience and broadcast WAAAAY past any child's bedtime (even past the President's bedtime, as was noted several times) the point is that you explain things to a child on a child's level.
So, Chippendale's is a place to go to watch people dance. And Mrs. Cheney's nickname is "Dollar Bill" because you have to pay to get in.
There is no reason to expand any explanation to the purient. Anything bawdy in Mrs. Bush's speech is in the ears and the mind of the listener -- certainly not in her performance.
Anyone who thinks differently, has his/her mind in the gutter! Some people certainly make mountains out of molehills.
I read Acts 2, and I don't think it excuses or justifies what you are doing! You failed to post the rest of Peter's sermon where he urged the people to repent and be forgiven! Peter could have been talking to himself as well, because he had denied Christ three times before He was crucified. You are not Christ and you do not know the heart and minds of other people, and it's not your job to judge others-- especially when you have such a 'plank in your own eye'. Mrs. Bush certainly did not deserve 'to be rebuked', but if she had, you didn't do it in a loving way, did you? You condemned her in a dastardly manner! Your comments have not helped you or anyone else. It appears you have gone out of your way to antagonize everyone who doesn't agree with you.
I'm not in the judgment bidness.
