For some reason, I though that Goat sales were tanking and you could pick up one fairly reasonably. So much for that idea. As discussed previous, I'd like to find a 2-door rear-drive V-8 to replace my old Firebird but the only thing I see is this or the Mustang which is a bit small and "young" for me. I was out looking yesterday morning and cars, in general, are very disappointing.

GM has announced that The Racers Group will be campaigning a version of this GTO in the Grand American series; they claim it is the first racing use of the car, which is not exactly true -- two GTOs have been campaigning in the Speed World Challenge GT class since last fall, one of them by Chili Pepper Racing. These two are prepared by Holden of Australia, which may be what GM means by saying TRG's first off the line with the GTO.

I think practically all post-early 1970s cars are largely hideous, all look alike and have no "soul."

Very nice.

No car, however, will ever replace the '67 GTO with a 400 cu. in. fire-breather.

They can fool around with the exhaust system (on the new one) all they want, but nothing - NOTHING - can replace cubic inches when it comes to exhaust note.

The new GTO is "techno" music. The old Goat is a symphony.

Pictures, please. I am invoking the Coulter rule for any vehicle thread that features cool cars, trucks or motorcycles.

Quite frankly, I don't see a lot of difference between the '04 and '05 designs.

It still looks like a souped up Grand Am.

Versus this piece of crap:

The 19680-70 GTO was the only car I ever drove that would chirp the tires between 1st and 2nd -- and it was an AUTOMATIC!

The new version is blasphemy.

See, now that's what I mean. The oldies may be lacking in newfangled "frills," but more than make up for it in the "class" and "soul" departments.

The '05 has a lot of boy-racer bolt on crep. But it has the go-fast motor, so you may be willing to overlook the aesthetic assault.

I like the beefier retro design of the new Mustang. At least when you see one you know what it is. This new GTO looks like everything else Pontiac makes...boring.

My old Firebird will do that but the car has to be on the cool side so the trans is tight.

...as someone who still pines for his much-missed '68 rubbernose convertible, I hear what you're saying. But this new car is so much better, and so much faster, there's really no comparison. Cheers, Byron

(this is not my car)

RONNY AND THE DAYTONAS lyrics - "GTO"
(John Wilkin)
Little GTO, you're really lookin' fine
Three deuces and a four-speed and a 389
Listen to her tachin' up now, listen to her why-ee-eye-ine
C'mon and turn it on, wind it up, blow it out GTO

Wa-wa, (mixed with "Yeah, yeah, little GTO") wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa
(mixed with "Yeah, yeah, little GTO")
Wa-wa, (mixed with "Yeah, yeah, little GTO") wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa
(mixed with "Yeah, yeah, little GTO")
Wa-wa (mixed with "Ahhh, little GTO") wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa

You oughta see her on a road course or a quarter mile
This little modified Pon-Pon has got plenty of style
She beats the gassers and the rail jobs, really drives 'em why-ee-eye-ild
C'mon and turn it on, wind it up, blow it out GTO

Wa-wa, (mixed with "Yeah, yeah, little GTO") wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa
(mixed with "Yeah, yeah, little GTO")
Wa-wa, (mixed with "Yeah, yeah, little GTO") wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa
(mixed with "Yeah, yeah, little GTO")
Wa-wa (mixed with "Ahhh, little GTO") wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa

Gonna save all my money (turnin' it on, blowin' it out) and buy a GTO (turnin' it on, blowin' it out)
Get a helmet and a roll bar (turnin' it on, blowin' it out) and I'll be ready to go
(turnin' it on, blowin' it out)
Take it out to Pomona (turnin' it on, blowin' it out) and let 'em know (turnin' it on,blowin' it out), yeah, yeah That I'm the coolest thing around
Little buddy, gonna shut you down
When I turn it on, wind it up, blow it out GTO

Wa-wa, (mixed with "Yeah, yeah, little GTO") wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa
(mixed with "Yeah, yeah, little GTO")
Wa-wa, (mixed with "Yeah, yeah, little GTO") wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa
(mixed with "Yeah, yeah, little GTO")
Wa-wa (mixed with "Ahhh, little GTO") wa, wa, wa, wa, wa, wa
